Week 14

Well my pc is still down, so I have to do this the old fashion way.

Dave's PC isn't the only thing that crashed this week.  Meyer's cart took a trip into the stream behind the 16th green.

Two weeks left:

So much for trying to gain ground on the vacationing Alvarez / Cowles, they now have a 7.5 lead over  the 2nd place teams of Hemphill / Oravec and Kearns / Russell.  Sorry to say, the rest of the teams are mathematically out of the race for 1st place. Alvarez / Cowles magic number is 3.5.  Any wins adding to 3.5 or losses by the 2nd place teams adding to 3.5 and we have a new league Champions.

Next opponent for Alvarez / Cowles is team Deyette / Stadnicki (pressures on!).

SandBagger of the Week:

First it was nice to see Mark Hawkes back on the course this week.  I just wish his opponent treated him better.  Mike Galiszewski. greeted Mark with a net round of 31.  Great shooting Mike!

Byrdie Club:

Let’s start with the newbie: John Hemphill who got his 1st bird on the par 4 18th.

The golfers adding to their birdie totals:
  • Meyer Frankel birdied the par 4 14th hole
  • Rob Pierce birdied the par 3 15th hole.
  • Gene Patrizzi birdied both the par 4 12th and par 4 14th holes.
  • Bill "I'm the King" Gallagher, not wanting to be out done by his subjects, birdied the par 4 18th.  Great shooting gentlemen!
Note on Bill G's birdie: he drove the green on 18.
Side note – Lenny also drove the green on 18.
Bill G's drive on 18.

Eagle Club:
Has been resurrected; Dave Deyette eagled the par 5 11th hole.  Dave’s (my) 2nd shot went 3 feet past the pin.  There was no pressure (not much).  But I did have to wait for the camera crew (Kevin) to set up and get ready before I could putt. Great shot Dave!

End-of-the-Year tournament:

Week 13

It was a beautiful night for golf.

It was good to see Ellen Panagrosso back on the course.

Three weeks left to the season. I don’t know if this is a strategic move but the 1st place team of Alvarez and Cowles will be off next week on vacation.

Team Standings:

Alvarez / Cowles widened their lead over 2nd place of Hemphill / Oravec by 7 points.

Individual Standings:

Ted’s magic number is 3 (points). He’s making it a little tougher to reach, that goal, by going on vacation. Ted, how long will it take you to drive back from Maine?

Ted has a 3.50 point lead over his playing partner Joe (15.50), who is also on vacation next week.  This will allow John (15.50), Manny (15.50) and Ed (14.00) to make up some ground.

SandBagger of the Week:

Bill "Bring Them On" Oravec, who shot a net of 26, matching his 2010 low net. Great round Bill!

Byrdie Club:

Bill "Bring Them On" Oravec on the way to his low net of 26, birdied the par 4 1st hole and the par 4 6th hole.  Kevin "Killer" Kearns added to his birdie total, by birding the par 4 6th hole.  Ellen "This Is My First Time Out" Panagrosso got her first bird of the season of the par 3 7th hole.

Great shooting golfers!

Note – Ellen lipped out her birdie putt on the 3rd hole and just missed birdied putts on the 5th and 6th hole, leaving tap-in par putts and Lenny was giving her a stroke to boot!

Bill was on the phone a long time last night – I think he was talking to his financial advisor. He wanted to know if buying 2 birdie pitchers would put a dent in his portfolio!

Maybe Bill was talking to Dave?

I think the Stadnicki boys just bring out the best in golfers (Bill O. played against Mark).

Week 12

Four more weeks left in the season. Last night is August 28.
The team of Alvarez / Cowles keep rolling along, taking down last year’s champions of Kearns / Russell. It would have been closer if they added Kevin’s score correctly!

Next up for Joe and Ted is: Rob and ???.

With 4 weeks left:

Team standings:

Alvarez / Cowles (42.50) with a widening gap of 8.00 points over Hemphill / Oravec (34.50) and a 10.50 lead over Kearns / Russell (32.00).

Individual Golfer standings:

Ted (17.00) has a slim 1.50 over his playing partner Joe (15.5) and John (15.5) and a 3 point lead of Ed (14.00).

Gallagher vs Gallagher:

As predicted Gallagher won!
(see the stats to find out that John beat dad)

SandBagger of the Week:

And once again, it was my opponent who shot a fine 28 net (which is the 2nd time this has happened to in a few weeks): Rob "How Many Strokes AreYou Giving Me?" Pierce. Great round Rob!

As Joe would say: quit whining!!

Byrdie Club:

Nada

It’s only Wednesday and I have 4 subs ready to go for next week. This could get a little sticky, since I asked 7 subs to play next week.

Official PGA rules (but not a Phoenix rule):

Hitting the wrong ball is a 2 stroke penalty and loss of hole. So make sure you look at the ball your going to hit and every once in a while, I will out drive Lenny.

Week 11

Week 11 is by the wayside. 4 more weeks of "regular" league play and the last week is the Championship round. Hopefully it means something this year not like last year when Kearns / Russell had it sewn-up going into the last week.

I want to thank Airways for setting up a closest to the pin on the 7th hole. Many tried and many failed but one prevailed: Gene Patrizzi. Gene’s shot landed 12’ 7” from the stick. Gene received a 5 pack of Pinnacles (donated by Airways). Gene then went to the rest of the foresome so he could show them all what he won! Great shot Gene!!

So with that said: Alvarez / Cowles are distancing themselves from the rest of the league. They have a 5 point lead over the second place team of Hemphill / Oravec. But there is still time for the rest of the league to make their move!

SandBagger of the Week:

Len Stadnicki – Len shot a fine 31 net. Great round Len!

Byrdie Club:

One newbie and two returnees: Dave Deyette got his 1st bird on the 8th hole. Also birding the 8th hole was Len Stadnicki and birding the 1st hole that lead to this week low gross: Kevin "My Handicap Just Went Down" Kearns. Nice shooting Gentlemen!

Talking about low handicaps: team of Kearns / Russell have hcp of 7 (6.6) and 7 (6.6). You decided who has which handicap! They will be giving a lot of strokes next week!

Subs for 7/31: Gene
8/7: Gene, Tom, Bill G. and Hermann

Here it is: John H's Tee Shot on the 12th hole.  Thankfully, none of his partner's beverage was spilled.

Week 9

We’re starting to get the extra roll on the ball, now!

Did everyone notice the "redirection" of the stream along side the 6th hole? I got a close up look (twice)!

We had another 1 vs. 2 last night. Well the 1st place team of Alvarez / Cowles schooled the team of Hemphill / Oravec. Enough said..

What I want to say about our 4-some golf game, as a group we ……. Enough said.

Every time Mike Galiszuski walked by, I wanted to take my hat off and put my right hand over my heart!

SandBagger of the Week:

Tie between Manny "Mr. Consistent" Russell and Nick "Costello" Billeter, both shooting a fine net 31. Great round Gentlemen!

Byrdie Club:

Rob "I Want a New Partner" Pierce getting his bird on the par 4 6th hole and Manny "Mr. Consistent" Russell getting his bird on the ‘Hole from Hell’ par 4 3rd hole.

I heard Rob’s birdie was so fantastic that he got a "byrdie" pitcher and half, of beer!

Great shooting Gentlemen!

Rumor of the Week:

Manny had a 33 going into the last hole.

Subs needed for next week: Gene

If you need a sub, let me know.

While the 1st and 2nd place teams were battling it out last night, the 3rd place team of Alvarez / Cowles vaulted into 1st place.
