20256 - Week 6

Airways Golf League — Week 9 Recap: June 9, 2026

The sixth official week of the season

The front nine at Airways finally cracked. Eleven players took the field on a beautiful Tuesday and produced the best front-nine night of the year by a wide margin: 16 pars, 1 birdie, 8 players meeting their targets, and Logan Jarvis posting his best Stableford total of the season. The course that had spent April and May handing out 8s like Halloween candy turned out, on June 9, to be a course you could actually score on.

Also: Kevin Kearns picked the wrong week, the wrong opponent, and arguably the wrong tee box from which to start running his mouth.

Logan Jarvis Sets the Bar Higher

Logan Jarvis shot 40 on the front nine — six over par — and posted 15 Stableford points on a target of 11. That's a new season high, surpassing his 14 from May 19. He birdied hole 9 (a 3 on a par 4 — the same hole and same score Kevin Kearns birdied way back in Week 1), parred holes 2, 6, and 7, and added five bogey points for good measure.

Here's the wild part: Logan scored at least one Stableford point on every single hole. Nine holes, nine scoring holes. No zeroes anywhere on the card. In a league where the average round produces three or four blank holes, posting points on every hole is a different kind of golf entirely.

Four bonus points pushed his official-season bonus-points lead back out to 17. This is now the fifth time in six official weeks Logan has hit double-digit Stableford points. He's posted 40, 42, and 40 in his last three front-nine visits to the course where the field's average had been hovering around 47. He's also tied for the season lead in pars at 18.

Kevin Gallagher Joins the Five-Par Club

Just one week after his brother John shocked the league by posting 5 pars in a single round — setting a new season-per-round record — Kevin Gallagher did exactly the same thing. Five pars on holes 1, 4, 6, 7, and 9. The season record now has back-to-back holders, and they live in the same household.

Kevin's 12 Stableford points on a target of 6 was good for six bonus points, doubled his target, and pulled him into a tie with Logan Jarvis atop the season par leaderboard (18 each). His 43 strokes was the second-lowest score of the night. He's quietly built one of the most consistent ball-striking seasons in the league, even if the bonus-points column hadn't always rewarded him until now.

Len Stadnicki Comes Back Loud

Len Stadnicki, after a one-week absence, returned with a vengeance. Target of 2; posted 8. Six bonus points — tying Kevin Gallagher for the second-most bonus points in any single week this season (behind only John Gallagher's 9 last week). He parred hole 6, bogeyed six other holes (3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9), and the only holes that got the better of him were doubles on 1 and 2. Once he got into bogey gear after a rough start, he stayed there. The result: his best round of the season.

The Kearns-Wieland Situation

Mid-round — after several holes that had not gone according to plan — Kevin Kearns informed Tom Wieland that Wieland was bound for relegation to the women's league. The remark was, presumably, intended in the spirit of competitive ribbing. The timing was, presumably, intended to be the moment when Kearns had a comfortable advantage.

The scorecard had other ideas.

Both players shot 49 strokes. Identical raw scores, hole for hole nearly identical too — both made bogey on holes 2 and 9, both made double on hole 8, both had a 4 on the par-3 seventh. Wieland's worst hole was a quad-bogey 8 on the par-4 third. Kearns's worst hole was a triple-bogey 7 on the same hole — and another triple-bogey 7 on the par-5 fourth.

When the dust settled, Tom Wieland posted 7 Stableford points on a target of 3 (four bonus points, target crushed). Kevin Kearns posted 6 Stableford points on a target of 8 (zero bonus points, target missed by two).

Same score. Different ledgers. Different outcomes.

So if anyone is being relegated, the math may be pointing in a direction Kevin did not anticipate. Perhaps Kevin would benefit from a fresh perspective next week — say, from a set of forward tees with a different color marker on them. Just a thought. From a friend.

Meanwhile, Wieland has now met his target five weeks in a row with four of those producing bonus points. His Week 4 scoring line of zero feels like ancient history. He's quietly in fourth place on the official-season bonus-points list (11), behind only Logan, Bill Gallagher, and John Gallagher.

Hole 3 Watch

Hole 3 — undefeated all year against pars — gave up two bogeys this week (Logan Jarvis and Len Stadnicki, both with 5s) and played to a 6.9 average. That's actually the second-best the hole has played all season. But still: across five front-nine visits, hole 3 has surrendered zero pars and just five total bogeys. It remains the only hole at Airways without a par on its 2026 ledger.

Hole 7's Bogey Party

The par-3 seventh became the busiest scoring hole of the night. Of eleven players, two parred it (Kevin Gallagher and Logan Jarvis) and the other nine all bogeyed it with 4s. Every single player on the course scored a point on hole 7. There aren't many holes that can claim that.

Bill Gallagher and Dave Deyette Find Pars

Bill Gallagher posted 7 points on a target of 5 with two bonus points, parring hole 5 in the process. After his season-best 12-point round last week, he keeps the momentum — back-to-back target-met official weeks. Dave Deyette parred hole 6 and posted 6 points on a target of 5 for one bonus point. The Bogey Whisperer was true to form once again, with five bogeys among his nine holes.

Chris McKone Returns

Chris McKone, after consecutive absences, returned to the field and posted exactly his target of 5 plus a bonus point for 6 total. His opening four holes were the kind of stretch that hurts to look at — 8, 7, 8, 9 — but he closed strong with bogeys on 6 and 7 and pars on 8 and 9 to salvage the round. That's now three official weeks for McKone, and he's met his target in all three.

The Ted Cowles Streak Continues

Ted Cowles posted 6 points on a target of 4 with two bonus points — his fifth straight official week meeting his target. He's the only player in the league to have hit his target in every official appearance he's made. He bogeyed six different holes (1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 9) and avoided pars entirely, but the Cowles method requires no pars: it just requires steady bogey points and the occasional quad to keep things interesting.

The Struggles

John Gallagher, fresh off his nine-bonus-point round last week, came back to earth with 3 points on a target of 4. A par on hole 5 and a bogey on hole 7 were his only scoring holes — the rest of the card was doubles and triples. Sometimes the magic stays for one week and one week only. Joe Alvarez also posted 3 points on a target of 4, with a par on hole 2 his lone highlight.

Kevin Kearns's 6-point round on a target of 8 was his first official week missing his target since Week 5. Tough week to pick for it.

Where the Pars Came From

Sixteen pars on the night — a new front-nine season high — across eight different holes:

  • Hole 6: Dave Deyette, Kevin Gallagher, Logan Jarvis, Len Stadnicki (4 pars)
  • Hole 5: Bill Gallagher, John Gallagher, Kevin Kearns (3 pars)
  • Hole 2: Joe Alvarez, Logan Jarvis
  • Hole 7: Kevin Gallagher, Logan Jarvis
  • Hole 9: Kevin Gallagher, Chris McKone (plus Logan Jarvis's birdie)
  • Hole 1: Kevin Gallagher
  • Hole 4: Kevin Gallagher
  • Hole 8: Chris McKone

Kevin Gallagher: 5 pars. Logan Jarvis: 3 pars and a birdie. Chris McKone: 2 pars. Bill Gallagher, John Gallagher, Kevin Kearns: 1 par each.

By the Numbers

Eleven players, 1 birdie, 16 pars (a season high), 43 bogeys (also a season high), 8 targets met. The 2026 season birdie count climbs to six — split among Kearns (1), Jarvis (4), and Bill Gallagher (1). Logan and Kevin Gallagher are tied at 18 pars for the season, with Kevin Kearns at 15.

The official-season bonus-points race after six weeks: Logan Jarvis 17, Bill Gallagher 13, John Gallagher 13, Tom Wieland 11, Len Stadnicki 8.

Attendance Watch

Four absent this week — fewer than last week. The three regulars who haven't shown up at all in 2026 stay missing. Bill Oravec is the only other player out tonight, his second straight skip.

The front nine softened. Logan Jarvis set a new personal best for the season — and posted points on every hole. Kevin Gallagher matched his brother's five-par record. Len Stadnicki returned in style. And Kevin Kearns may want to keep certain mid-round opinions to himself going forward.

On to Week 10.
