Airways Golf League — Week 17 Recap: August 25, 2026
The fourth week of the second half
Nine players took the field on the back nine, three of them had big rounds, one of them made an appearance the league had almost given up on ever seeing, and for the first time in three weeks, no birdies were made. Logan Jarvis matched his own season-record six pars in a single round, John Gallagher put together another target-crushing week, and a certain long-lost golfer emerged from a five-month hibernation to walk the fairways of Airways once again.
Zog Emerges
For 16 straight weeks, Dave Zogbaum — known league-wide simply as "Zog" — sat in the same box on the scorecard as Tom Confrey and Hermann Keilich: absent. Sixteen weeks of no-shows. A perfect record of not showing up. Then on Tuesday, without fanfare or warning, Zog walked out to the tenth tee, teed it up, and played his first (and, we're told, only) round of the 2026 season.
He posted 3 points on a target of 4, missing by one. Bogey points on holes 10, 11, and 18. Nothing spectacular, but for a player who hadn't swung a competitive club in five months, a 56-stroke round with three bogey points is more than defensible. The rest of his card — three triples and a couple of doubles and a quad on 16 — was the price of admission for a rusty return.
Zog's plans, per the news reaching the clubhouse, are to log this one appearance and return to the missing-persons list. A one-week cameo for a player the league had roughly given up on seeing all year. Welcome (briefly) back.
Logan Jarvis Ties His Own Season Record
Logan Jarvis shot 39 — the fifth sub-40 round of his season, and yet another entry in what is quickly becoming the most consistently excellent stretch of golf anyone has posted this year. He parred six holes on the round — 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, and 16 — matching the season record he set on June 23. Nobody else in the league has ever posted more than five pars in a single round; Logan has now done it twice.
Final tally: 14 points on a target of 13, one bonus point. Just enough. His triple-double closing stretch (bogey on 17, double on 18) kept the round from becoming truly monstrous, but the meat of it — five straight scoring holes with four pars in a row on 14, 15, 16 — was masterclass work.
He's now met his target in three of four second-half weeks, with 6 bonus points on the season half. Not leading the second-half race, but close enough to keep it interesting.
John Gallagher's Third Strong Week in Four
John Gallagher posted 11 points on a target of 7 — four bonus points, and a 42-stroke round tied for the second-lowest of the night. He parred five holes — 11, 12, 14, 17, and 18 — including his last two to close. That five-par round is tied for the second-best single-round par count of the season, and it's now the second time this season John has posted five pars in a round.
John's second-half scoring line: 11, 5, 10, 11 — with three of those four weeks producing four or more bonus points. He now sits tied with his brother Kevin Gallagher at the top of the second-half bonus leaderboard, both at 11 bonus points through four weeks.
Kevin Gallagher's Off Week
Kevin Gallagher had the opposite kind of week. After his 13-point breakout last Tuesday, Kevin G. posted just 5 points on a target of 7, missing by two. His lone par (a beautiful one on hole 16, where the field otherwise had another rough day) plus two bogey points weren't enough. Three 7s — on holes 11, 14, and 17 — plus a 6 on 12 turned what looked like a target-met round into a target-missed one. He ends the night still tied with John for the second-half lead, but the momentum has shifted.
Kevin Kearns: Three-for-Three in the Second Half
Kevin Kearns returned from his one-week absence and posted 9 points on a target of 8 — one bonus point, target met, and it's now three-for-three in the second half for him. He parred hole 15 and collected seven bogey points across the round. That's a Kearns signature: no birdie, one par, and a march of bogey points that eventually adds up to a decent Stableford total. He shot 44, the third-lowest score of the night.
His second-half bonus tally moves to 7, just four back of the co-leaders.
Chris McKone Keeps Meeting Targets
Chris McKone posted 7 points on a target of 6 — one bonus point, target met. He parred holes 11 and 18, added three bogey points, and turned in a 47-stroke round. He's now met his target in eight of ten official appearances this season. The reset didn't slow him down.
The Struggles
Bill Gallagher had a rough one — 7 points on a target of 9, missed by two. Which is a strange thing to write about a round that included three pars (holes 10, 11, and 18), but that's how the target system works. His pars were bookended by five doubles or worse in the middle of the round, including 7s on 16 and 17. It's his first target miss in four second-half weeks.
Ted Cowles posted 4 points on a target of 5 — missed by one, and it's his first target miss in the second half after three straight target-met weeks. Four bogey points (holes 10, 14, 15, and 17) weren't quite enough. The Cowles staircase pauses for a beat.
Bill Oravec posted exactly his target of 3, no bonus. Three bogey points on the par-3s (holes 10, 13, 15) accounted for his entire scoring output. Everything else was double or worse.
Hole 11 Gives Up Four More Pars
The par-5 eleventh continues to be one of the friendliest holes on the course, giving up four more pars this week to Bill Gallagher, Chris McKone, John Gallagher, and Logan Jarvis. Season count now stands at 15 pars and 3 birdies on hole 11, both easily the league highs on any single hole.
Hole 18 Gives Up Three Pars
The par-4 eighteenth also gave up three pars (Bill Gallagher, Chris McKone, John Gallagher). It continues its transition into a closing hole players can actually finish on. The hole's season scoring history has been on a downward slope since April, and even without Logan's participation this week (he closed with a double), it produced three positive stories.
Hole 16: Still Punishing
The par-5 sixteenth remains a stubborn hold-out. Only Logan Jarvis and Kevin Gallagher parred it, and everyone else made bogey or worse — including 9s from Bill Oravec and Dave Zogbaum. It's the only hole on the back nine that's actively fighting the seasonal softening trend.
No Birdies for the First Time in a While
For the first time since May 12, an entire week passed without a single birdie being recorded. Two straight four-birdie weeks (matching season highs) and now a goose egg. Season total holds at 21. Even Logan didn't manage one, though his 39 with six pars suggests the mechanics are still in place.

By the Numbers
Nine players, 0 birdies, 18 pars, 27 bogeys, 5 targets met. Back nine averaged 7.0 Stableford points — right in the middle of the season's back-nine range, and consistent with the general late-season trend.

Dead heat at the top between the Gallagher brothers, with Cowles and Kearns tied one bonus point behind, and Logan one further back. Bill Gallagher (Kevin and John's dad) is within striking distance at 4. Any player in the top seven can realistically catch the leaders.
Attendance Watch
Seven absent this week, though the composition is finally changing — Dave Zogbaum's cameo cuts the "never-appeared" list from three to two (Tom Confrey and Hermann Keilich are the last hold-outs). Dave Deyette out, Len Stadnicki out, Tom Wieland out for a fifth consecutive week, Alex Fisher out, and Joe Alvarez out in the traditional non-arrived-and-non-driving-someone-somewhere manner.
The Gallagher brothers are locked in a dead heat. Logan tied his own season record. And after 16 straight weeks of being the answer to the question "who has never shown up this season," Zog finally showed up.
On to Week 18.
