Start of Season

April 29th 2014 – Airways Golf Course

Rain Dates

If, we cancel play due to rain, an email will be set off to the league.  If you do not have access to email, please make a call to one of the league officers.  When the weather is in doubt, we will meet at the course and decide there whether we will play.  Any make-up rounds will be added to the end of the season before the Championship week.

Handicaps (hcp)

Handicaps will be calculated weekly as follows: we will use your six most recent league scores, discard the highest, and average the remaining five sores t determine your new handicap.  Each player will be ‘seeded’ with a starting handicap.  For returning players, your handicap will be continued from last season.

Scoring

We will be playing a combination of match and stroke play.  Each hole will be won by you, or won by your opponent, or in a tie, halved.  Strokes will be given on each hole based on the difference between your handicap and that of your opponent.  The person with the most holes won at the end of the nine holes, wins the match and gets one point; a tie for holes won will result in each player winning ½ point.  In addition, one point will be awarded to the lowest combined net scored between you and your opponent; a tie in net score results in each player winning ½ point.  Finally, a team point will be awarded to the lowest combined net score between the two teams; a tie in total net score results in each team winning ½ team point.  This results in a total of five points being played for by each team during each week of league play.

Maximum Score per hole

Maximum score for the hole is four over par.  That is, a seven on a par three, an eight on a par four, and a nine on a par five.

Playing against ‘Dummy’

If you happen not to play against an opponent, you will be matched against the ‘Dummy’ golfer.  How to beat ‘Dummy’: I add a stroke to the two highest handicap holes for that round. For example, ‘Dummy’ always has a zero handicap and if par for the nine holes (front nine at Airways) is thirty-six, then ‘Dummy’ will shoot a gross thirty-eight with a net thirty-eight.  If your handicap is a sixteen and you shoot a fifty-three (gross), then your net will be a thirty-seven. You will beat ‘Dummy’ by one in stroke play.  For match play, it will depend on who won the hole.

Yellow Tees

*New this year – Yellow Tees – You can use the Yellow Tees if:
  • Over 70
  • Have a disability
But once you start using the Yellow Tees, you will need to use them every week.

Our hcp system can not handle switching from tee to tee.  So if you are to use it, start the first week.

MVP

There will be an MVP for the League.  It will be based on total points won during the season.  Tie breakers are TBD:

1.   record between tying player if they played each other

2.   who would have won if they played each other on the last day

3.   comparison of cards on the last day (first hole someone should have won starting from the last hole played)

Slow Play

Keep your foursomes moving, from hole to hole in a reasonable amount of time.  If you reach the maximum number of strokes for a hole, please pick up and go to the next hole.  For a lost ball, spend a couple of minutes looking then drop another and continue.  Play heads up golf; each member of a foursome should go to their ball and be ready to hit their next shot.

Procedure for obtaining a Sub

1.   Find a sub from the league sub list yourself.

a.   Please notify the league of who the sub is, the date they are playing and their handicap (if known) for nine holes.  Plus notify the sub of the $12.50 greens fee payable to the treasurer (Meyer).

2.   Ask the league to find a sub for you (email or call).

a.   Notify the league of the date you will not be available to play and every effort will be made to find a sub for that week.

Payments

Please send/give a check for $275.00 payable to ‘Meyer Frankel’ or you can make two payments: 1st payment due by the first night of golf and the second payment by June 10th.  Dave Deyette is Meyers back-up money man.
