Week 11

Beautiful night for golf!

Welcome back Hermann!

Hermann hasn’t touched a club all year and that what I was telling myself when he put his drive between Lenny and myself, on the 2nd hole!

On a sad note: Ed Williams brother-in-law passed away last week. On behalf of the Phoenix Golf League, I would like to send our condolences to Ed and his family.

On the up coming golf outing at St. Annes; since we had a good time last year, I would like to keep it in a scramble format. Also, if you didn’t realize it, the order your team is in the league standings is the order you’ll be going out in the golf outing. It gives us something to shoot for, besides trying to knock Gallagher / Williams out of first place.

Next week is August 2nd and our last night is August 31st. I’m not saying time is running or painting a target on the backs of Gallagher / Williams but if some team doesn’t stop or slow them down, it could be over soon. Next up for the 1st place team is, Oravec / Plant.

SandBagger of the Week:

Or SandBaggers: Dave Deyette, Larry Myers, and Mike Galiszuski, all three shot a net round of 32. Nice bagging golfers! I bet your opponents weren’t calling you that name!

Byrdie Club:

Two returnees: Rob "Only 8 More Birdies" Pierce who birdied the 1st hole and Kevin "My Handicap Didn’t Go Down" Kearns got his bird on the 6th hole. Nice shots golfers!

Eagle Club:

President Kearns is having a promotion for next week only, free admission to the Eagle Club. He’s dropping the 2 pitcher registration fee.

President Kearns is the loneliest person in the Eagle Club.

End-of-the-year Tournament:

October 10th
St. Annes CC

Week 10

It was a warm one last night!

Wow – there were no ties last night (individually or team). Either you won or you lost.

We have a new leader: team Gallagher (Zogger) / Williams de-throned the team of Pierce (Sand) / Wieland (Bagger). With only 5 weeks left, no one team has yet to pull away. Next week, can Kearns / Russell slow down Gallagher / Williams?

SandBagger of the Week:

Dave "I’m only getting 4 strokes?" Deyette – Dave shot a fine round of net 28. Great round Dave!

Byrdie Club:

We had 1 newbie: Len "I get to pay for my own pitcher" Stadnicki and Kevin "Killer" Kearns, who both birdied the 11th hole. Nice shots, Gentlemen!

"Yeah, that's my pitcher. I bought that pitcher. I HAD TO buy that pitcher."

Eagle Club:

No new members.

"Why is Gallagher standing me up every week?"

"Well, as long as he continues to not show up, we may have a chance to win it all this season!"

"I taught Louis Oosthuizen everything he knows about this game."

Nice golf shoes, "B"!

Week 9

Well it wasn’t hot or cold, just very, very wet. Also we didn’t have to forge the stream on the 9th hole like the last foursome did.

As a whole, I think the league likes to play in the rain. The scores were much lower this week.

Once again, I like to thanks Airways for their generosity for the free carts. If you thought you were wet last night, imagine what it would have been like walking.

Team of Sand / Bagger:

Wow Tom and Rob squeaked out another 4.5 points without doing too much damage to their hcps. Tom stayed the same and Rob went down 1.

Their opponents for next week, the 2nd place team of Gallagher / Williams. Will we have a new team in 1st place or will they become another victim for team Sand / Bagger?

Is Rob "Sand" or "Bagger"?

SandBagger of the Week:

By looking at the score cards and talking with the players, there were a lot of sandbaggers this week. Ask Gene Pattrizzi who the sandbagger was and he’ll tell you it was his opponent, Mark Stadnicki. I want to point out that Gene shot a 39 (gross) and got his butt whipped. Mark ‘I like the rain’ Stadnicki shot a net 29. Nice round Mark! More on these two later.

Byrdie Club:

We have 1 returnee and 2 newbies. Ed Williams got his bird on the 5th hole after a great chip shot. The newbies: Gene "I’ll get you next week" Patrizzi and Mark "$$Dad$$" Stadnicki. Both Gene and Mark birdied the ‘hole from hell’ 3rd hole and then Gene birdied the 9th hole. Great shots, Gentlemen!!!

*note – since Dad was buying the birdie pitcher, Mark bought his birdie pitcher a half hour before Mark even got to the club house.

Ed's birdie.

Eagle Club:

Just Kevin "I’m getting lonely" Kearns. I would have thought with the low scores someone would have gotten lucky.

End of the year tournament:

1) Deyette / Stadnicki (18.0 points)
6) Hemphill / Waid (15.5 points)
4) Carey / Frankel (11.5 points)

Now that's great teamwork!

"Now where did I dock the Ark?"
