Week 12

I can say this about last night, it was a whole lot drier than last week!!

It was good to see Ellen Panagrosso, last night!

It was alumni night again this week.

How do you make golfers stop talking about 3 putting, you four putt from 4 feet away and NOBODY talks about 3 putting, again. They don’t even make eye contact, with you, for a long while either!

4 FEET AWAY!! WHAT THE….!!

John Hemphill and Ron Waid had a nice stroll around the golf course and this was after their round was finished! Either John has a habit of putting his clubs in other people’s golf bags or Marilyn is trying to augment her golf set. It wasn’t until after, their walk, then John asked Marilyn to check her bag.

4 weeks to go and the race is tightening!!

Kearns / Russell vaulted into 1st place with Frankel / Larson a slim .5 points behind and Michaud / Zwanch trailing by a mere 2 points. Mackin / Pierce slipped into 4th place, but not out of it being 4.5 points back.

I haven’t mentioned about the individual standing: Meyer Frankel tops the listing with 16.5 points and Jason Zwanch nipping at his heels, being .5 point back. Manny Russell is 1 point back. Marilyn Dolan and Kevin Kearns are 2 points out of the lead.

Golf tip of the week: Don’t bring your cell phone to the course or Kevin will call you (many times)!

SandBagger of the Week: Bill ‘Irish’ Gallagher shot a fine net of 31. Nice shooting Bill! (I bet he didn’t 4 putt!)

Byrdie Club: Wow 8 birdies last night! Good Record! We had 3 new members: Ron Waid birdied the 9th hole. Bill Oravec got his first birdie on the 8th hole and Craig Michaud on the tough 2nd hole. Others were Dave Deyette on the 9th hole, Bill Gallagher on the 8th hole, Gene Patrizzi on the 1st hole, Larry Myers on the 6th hole and Manny Russell on the 2nd hole.

I was there when President Zwanch welcomed his golf partner Craig Michaud to the Byrdie Club. It was a touching moment!

There was plenty of beer flowing last night! Even though he didn’t partake, new Byrdie Club member, Craig Michaud, brought his ‘birdie’ pitcher of beer before leaving the course. Great shots golfers!

Craig pays up.

Eagle Club: Czar Peirce is getting lonely!!

If you need a sub, let me know. (I got you Hermann!)

Dave

P.S. Wow I forgot Malcolm!!! What do you mean it was his first night at golf! When did he leave? It was good to see Malcolm on the links. It feels like he never left! (I think that will cover up the oops. No one will notice!)

Malcolm and Bill O. survey the ninth green.

Standings after Week 12:

3) Kearns / Russell (38.0 points)
4) Frankel / Larson (37.5 points)
9) Michaud / Zwanch (36.0 points)
10) Mackin / Pierce (33.5 points)
1) Deyette / Stadnicki (29.5 points)
6) Hemphill / Waid (29.0 points)
5) Housman / Morano (26.0 points)
8) Dolan / Galiszuski (24.5 points)
7) Myers / Patrizzi (23.5 points)
2) Gallagher / Keilich (22.5 points)

Shouldn't Dave be wearing a skirt if he's going to hit from the red tees?

Week 11

Well our luck didn’t hold out last night (Ah Pooh)!

SandBagger of the Week: There was another tie, this week, between Larry Myers and Manny Russell. Both shot a net round of 30. Great shooting gentlemen, under wet conditions!
*note - Manny shot a gross 41 without any birds!

Manny could do no wrong this week.

Byrdie Club: One new member this week: Johnny Hemphill. John got his bird on the 11th hole, chirping (chipping) it in from the back of the green. Good shot John!

For those who haven’t heard my story …. I went to see Bill ‘Irish’ Gallagher play vintage base ball, this weekend.

"Irish" didn't see much playing time that night.

I found 2 things out: Don’t swear or you’ll get ‘escorted’ out. If you’re going to swear, say ‘Ah Pooh’!

Also, I have a ‘rag’ arm! I couldn’t throw the ball back to the pitcher. I was told, next time get it to a kid because they can throw it farther!!

But my wife and I had a good time at the game. If anyone gets a chance, it’s worth while to go see. There are ball games again this weekend in Westfield, Ma. It’s only 10-15 minutes from the Mass Pike.

Mr. Potty Mouth enjoys some ice cream at the game with Mrs. Potty Mouth

5 more weeks to go and the race for 1st play is getting tighter!

With Mackin / Pierce losing last night, they are now tied for 1st with 2 other teams. With one team, one point back and two more within striking distance.

If you need a sub …..

Dave

Standings after Week 11:

10) Mackin / Pierce (33.0 points)
4 Frankel / Larson (33.0 points)
3 Kearns / Russell (33.0 points)
9 Michaud / Zwanch (32.0 points)
6 Hemphill / Waid (29.0 points)
1 Deyette / Stadnicki (28.5 points)
5 Housman / Morano (26.0 points)
7 Myers / Patrizzi (23.0 points)
8 Dolan / Galiszuski (19.5 points)
2 Gallagher / Keilich (18.0 points)

Kevin's phone wouldn't stop ringing on the course. That's his "excuse" for losing. Nice try, Kev.

Manny, with the "Let's get another pitcher so Bill won't have to go home and paint" pitcher.

No turtles this week, but this little guy was lurking by the 14th tee.

Week 10

It was a beautiful night for golf. It was good to see Duncan 'Flyboy' Parsons back on the links.

Flyboy, with Queen Anne making a rare cameo appearance.

SandBagger of the Week: This is a first. I've been doing this for a long time and I can't remember ever seeing a 3-way tie for this honor! Hermann Keilich, Dave Housman, and Ted Cowles, all had net rounds of 30. Great round, gentlemen!

Byrdie Club: One returnee and two newbies: Kevin Kearns, adds to his total, with a fine bird on the 5th hole. Larry 'why am I buying a pitcher of beer' Myers got his first bird on the 9th hole. Duncan Parsons added 2 birdies to his round. One on the 4th hole and the other on the 5th. Great shots, gentlemen!

There's something we don't see every day.

*note - It was Kevin vs Duncan and Duncan had to give Kevin a stroke on the 5th hole. Tough hole to lose!

10 weeks down - 6 to go!

Mackin / Pierce has a slim 3 point lead over Kearns / Russell

Let's see if team of Deyette / Stadnicki can slow the leaders down.

Jason's approach shot on nine was just a little long.

Like always, if you need a sub.....

Dave

Standings After Week 10:

10) Mackin / Pierce (33.0 points)

Week 9

Another hot one last night and I want to thank Bob Kemp for giving us golf carts (again) last night.

Thanks, Bob!

So far this year, I haven’t heard of anyone hitting the barn on the 10th tee. But the barn got hit off the 18th (Kevin). I wonder if anyone got a picture of it??

SandBagger of the Week: Shaun Mackin. Shaun shot a net round of 29. Nice shooting Shaun!

I’ve noticed that, out of 9 weeks of golf, team Mackin / Pierce have 4 Sandbagger of the Week awards ( 2 apiece). I also noticed that when Shaun receives the award, Rob is away, hmmm.

Was Rob’s vacation a strategy plan? How did he know there would be no subs available to play last night. Pure Genius! Well the team of Mackin / Pierce jumped back into 1st place over the team of Michaud / Zwanch. Not one team has yet to pull away from the rest of the log jam.

Byrdie Club: With all the low scores last night, you would expect there would be more, but there was only 1 new member last night, Shaun Mackin. Shaun birdied the 18th. Great shot, Shaun.

By the score card, it looked like Shaun and Craig had a great match going.

Eagle Club: It must be nice to be Czar Pierce. Since he became Czar, he already vacationing in Tampa or is it a business trip performing his Czar duties!

FYI …. Angela Larson has decided not to play the 2nd half. She will be missed! Ted Cowles will be subbing for her.

Ted, fooling himself into thinking he can make this putt.

For those of you who forgot, it’s time to pay off the balance on your golf dues.

"Pay your second half dues now, or I'll wrap this nine iron around your head!"

Like always, if you need a sub … I have Marilyn and Gene on next week sub list.

Dave

The president of the league presides over his weekly cabinet meeting.

"Hey, look! I found a nickel!"

This is for those of you who read the bottom of the email: only 7 players had low scores, 12 players left the course shaking the heads, saying ‘if I, would of, should of’!

Standings after Week 9:

10) Mackin / Pierce (31.0 points)
9) Michaud / Zwanch (29. points)
3) Kearns / Russell (28.0 points)
6) Hemphill / Waid (25.5 points)
4) Frankel / Larson (24.5 points)
5) Housman / Morano (21.5 points)
1) Deyette / Stadnicki (20.0 points)
8) Dolan / Galiszuski (17.5 points)
7) Myers / Patrizzi (17.0 points)
2) Gallagher / Keilich (11.0 points)

Week 8

We had a scare last night but still got the round in!

*Reminder – If you haven’t done so already, it’s time to pay off the balance on your golf dues. Meyer will be collecting the final payments over the next week or two. If you’re not sure, if or what you owe, contact Meyer.Frankel@phoenixwm.com. Checks are to be made out to: Phoenix Golf League.

SandBagger of the Week: Rob Pierce – Rob shot a fine 30. This is all I’m saying (for now) about Rob’s round. But see below for a more extensive explanation about his round! Good round Rob!

Byrdie Club: Two returnees: President Jason Zwanch and Kevin Kearns. The president had his bird on the 5th hole and Kevin got his on the 8th! Good shooting gentlemen!

Eagle Club: Rob Pierce EAGLED the 1st hole with a nice chip in!!!! When asked how he should be addressed: Czar Pierce, formerly know as ‘Rob Pierce’ is now holding court. He is looking for a few good golfers to join him. Czar Pierce was quoted as saying, ‘He will be a fair and just ruler and only punish those who deserve it’! Czar Pierce started off his coronation celebration by buying the first two pitchers of beer! Great shot Czar Pierce!!

The Czar's card.

Is the elusive Hole-In-One Club, next??

Check out Bill ‘Irish’ Gallagher on the ‘Ole Time’ baseball web site: http://www.seasonsofthefarmingtonvalley.com/magazines/farmingtonvalley/20086/FVBall.shtml.The team he plays for is called: Simsbury Taverneers. Some the ‘Ole Time’ baseball rules are great. Boy, some of the rules changed over the last 100 years or so!

Vacation time is upon us. Let us know if you need a sub!

Have a fun and safe, 4th of July!

Dave

At the end of every rainbow is a pot full of birdies . . .
