End of Season Outing and Banquet

I want to thank St. Anne’s for the great day they set up for us and the great food. Really how did they manage to get it so sunny and warm for us!!!

Also I want to thank Meyer for the great prizes and I want to thank the league for my gift.

Tournament Champions:

First off, congratulations go the Kevin Kearns, Manny Russell, John Hemphill and Ron Waid for winning the tournament with a score of 1 under. Great round gentlemen!

*note 2 years in a row that 1 under won and 2 years in a row that John and Ron were on the winning team.

Longest Drive:

Gene Patrizzi. All I can say is, what (?) they want to play off the yellow tees next year, right!

Closest to the Pin:

Gene Patrizzi – see comment about longest drive.

Since you can’t win 2 (tournament prizes) we pulled a name out the hat and Mike Galiszuski received the closest to the pin prize.

But, great shooting Gene!!!

Gentlemen, I had a great time this year and I looking forward to next year!

Have a great off season and I’ll see you next spring!

*note: the phrase most used in our 4-some: "Does your husband play?"

I got it right!!!!

Pretty sad when this is the "best ball" in a scramble.

It would have been a little more considerate had they sponsored the beer instead of a hole.

WHO LET TOM DRIVE???

We may have figured out why Rob Pierce's team did so poorly.

The spread.

Rob's most accurate shot of the day was when he swatted a fly into Tom's coffee.

The 2010 season champions are presenting their winnings by President Dave.

Bill Oravec claimed the low net prize for the season.

Anybody know a good divorce lawyer?

Week 16 (Final)

Congratulations to the team of Bill Gallagher and Ed Williams, the 2010 Phoenix Golf League Champions!!!

Also a special thanks to Meyer "Money Man" Frankel for handling our financials for the league, to Kevin "Click-Click" Kearns for all the golf pictures (especially the ones he didn’t send in!) and to "Blogger" Bill Gallagher for maintaining the Phoenix Blog and Facebook. Thank-you gentlemen!

Thanks to Airways for the generosity of the use their golf carts these pass weeks!

*NOTE – new amendment to the birdie rule: get a bird, buy a pitcher. The pitcher is the choice of the person who got the bird. In other words, it doesn’t have to be beer!

And boy, were there a lot of pitchers of beer last night! It was almost 8:30 when we finished all the beer!!!!!

SandBagger of the Week:

Mat "I was saving my best golf for the last week" Carey – Mat shot a fine net round of 28. He had the low net in his sights. Great round Mat!

Bydie Club:

Ed almost joined the ultra-exclusive hole-in-one club with this tee shot on the 10th.  Tom made him putt.

Newbie Mike "I’m buying" Galiszuski got his first bird of the season the 11th hole. John "I’m getting a stroke" Hemphill started off with a bird on the 10th hole, while his opponent Dave "I’m giving John a stroke???" Deyette got his bird on the 18th hole. Ed "Almost a hole-in-one" Williams tapped in his 3 inch birdie putt on the 10th hole. Finally newbie, Bill "This is going to cost me" Gallagher not only got his first bird on the 11th hole but got his second bird on the 18th hole. Good shooting gentlemen!!

*For anyone keeping score – 6 pitcher of beer (so far).

Eagle Club:

Rob's second shot on 11.

Kevin has company!!!! Rob "Déjà Vu" Pierce got his eagle on the 11th hole. This is the second time Kevin and Rob belong to the Eagle Club at the same time. Great shot Rob!

*8 pitchers of beer! Now that’s only counting birdies and eagles. With the new rule change this could be 4 pitchers of beer, 2 pitchers of soda and 2 pitcher sof water!

Championship team:

Gallagher / Williams

Individual Golf Leader:

Bill Gallagher (23 points)

Low Net:

Bill Oravec (26)

Even though our season is officially over, we will be continuing to golf on Tuesday nights. I’m sending this out to all the regulars and subs. If they want to play next week, I’ll be sending out another email on Monday to get a head count. This is so we can get an idea who will be playing and if we have to wait for anyone…..

End-of-the-year tournament:

October 10th @ St. Annes 10:00 am

Feeding Hills, MA 01030

So far, everyone is playing. Let me know if anyone can’t make it. We have a few subs wanting to play.

Once again, congratulations to everyone! It was a fun season!!

It sure was hot out there!

That must be lipstick, as Kevin's tee-shot kissed the barn on 10.

Bill G. waits for Rob to finish before sinking the championship-clinching birdie on 18.

That was a lot of birdie and eagle pitchers tonight.  Notice how John is strategically placed near the beer.

A special farewell to what's-her-name, who is moving to South Carolina after successfully quenching our thirsts for the past eight years.

The final pour from the final pitcher of the final night of the 2010 season.

Week 15

Well, I don't know if it was a beautiful night for golf or not, since I was on my cruise to Canada, Eh!

One of the dents on this sign in front of the 7th tee . . .

was Mike G.'s tee shot.

One week left to go and the team of Gallagher / Williams have a slim lead over the team of Pierce /Wieland. With Ed going low last week, he'll be giving Tom a whopping 6 strokes and Bill G. will be giving Rob 5 strokes. That's a lot of strokes being giving out. It should be a great match!

SandBagger of the Week:

Ed "I'm not holding anything back" Williams! Ed shot a net 31. It seems that Ed is peaking at the right time! Good game, Ed!!

Byrdie Club:

Someone who is familiar with getting birdies: Gene "This is cheaper than getting a hole-in-one" Patrizzi. Gene bagged his bird and the ever-so-tough 7th hole. Great shot, Gene!!

Eagle Club:

Don't give up Kevin, we have one more week. There still a chance for you to have company!

Individual Leader:

With one week to go, it looks like Bill Gallagher has sewn up this honor. Bill (21) has a 2.5 point lead over the closest player (Tom Wieland (18.5)) and since you can only win 2 points next week, congratulations, Bill G!

Low net:

Bill Oravec is still holding on with a net of 26, but stranger things have happen!

So for Tuesday August 31th tee times (last official night):

4:10 Carey / Frankel vs Galiszuski / Stadnicki
4:18 Hemphill / Waid vs Deyette / Stadnicki
4:26 Kearns / Russell vs Cowles / Morano
4:34 Oravec / Plant vs Myers / Patrizzi (last years champions)

Championship round:

4:42 Pierce / Wieland vs Gallagher / Williams

Don't forget, we're still playing for the end-of-the-tournament position which will be:

first tee times: 1st and 2nd place teams,
2nd tee times: 3rd and 4th place teams
and so forth and so on ......

End-of-the-year tournament:

October 10th @ St. Annes

Dave

Standings After Week 15:

2) Gallagher / Williams (52.0 points)
9) Pierce / Wieland (50.0 points)
7) Myers / Patrizzi (41.5 points)
10) Oravec / Plant (38.0 points)
5) Cowles / Morano (37.5 points)
3) Kearns / Russell (35.5 points)
1) Deyette / Stadnicki (35.5 points)
6) Hemphill / Waid (30.0 points)
8) Galiszuski / Stadnicki (27.5 points)
4) Carey / Frankel (27.5 points)

If this is a two stroke penalty . . .

then this must be a four stroke penalty!

Manny made Steve putt that?  Really?????

Week 14

A good night for golf!

With only 2 more weeks to go, 3 teams pulled away from the pack.

There is a tie for first place between teams Pierce / Wieland and Gallagher / Williams with last years championship team of Myers / Patrizzi trailing behind in 3rd place.

Next week 1st place team of Pierce / Wieland will go head to head with 3rd place team of Myers / Patrizzi while the 1st place team of Gallagher / Williams will be playing against the spoiler team of Galiszuski / Stadnicki. Everyone else is playing for their position in the end of the year tournament.

SandBagger of the Week:

Steve "Who’s next?" Plant – shooting a fine 28 net. Great round Steve!

Byrdie Club:

We had 1 newbie and 2 returnees. Newbie Steve "Who’s next?" Plant got his bird on the par 5 11th hole while the team of Deyette / Stadnicki got their birds on the par 3 10th hole (what a way to start – 2 pitchers of beer on the very first hole!).

Eagle Club:

Only Kevin!

I’ll be on vacation next week. Lenny will have the cards.

If you need a sub let me know. If for some reason you need a sub next Monday / Tuesday, let Meyer know.

End-of-the-year Tournament:

October 10th @ St. Annes

Dave
(Work) 413-794-9031
(Cell) 413-887-8296

6) Hemphill / Waid (27.0 points)
4) Carey / Frankel (25.5 points)

It's true.  Dave kicked Kevin's butt.

I don't remember seeing this on Jack Nicklaus's "Golf My Way" video.

They dress alike, they drink alike . . . Dave and Len, BFF!

Week 13

Another great ‘weather’ golf night and once again, thanks to Bob Kemp at Airways for the use of the carts, for last night and the rest of our season.

Three weeks left and 15 points still up for grabs, the top 2 teams had a hiccup. There are still 5 teams mathematically in the hunt. But some of those teams will need a lot of help.

1st place team of Gallagher / Williams will be going head to head with 3rd place team and defending Champions, of Myers / Patrizzi. There are 9 points separating them. 5 points will go a long way. It might come down to Ed Williams and Larry Myers to decide their team’s fate. Bill and Gene will not be here next week.

The Myers / Patrizzi team are looking for help in defending last season's championship.  But . . . in the woods?

2nd place team of Pierce / Wieland will be playing the spoiler team of Hemphill / Waid. With Ron still on vacation, I wonder which ‘ringer’ will be taking Ron spot?

4th place team of Cowles / Morano will be playing another spoiler team of Galiszuski / Stadnicki. Paul is holding the team together while Ted is on a 2 week vacation.

5th place team of Kearns / Russell will be playing the last of the spoilers, the team of Deyette / Stadnicki. (this will be the game to watch, because Kevin is going down!!!)

The next 2 teams are playing for pride and which position they will be going out in the end of the year tournament, the teams of Oravec / Plant against the team of Carey / Frankel. With Steve’s back acting up on him and Mat missing next week, this too can come down to Bill and Meyer.

Don’t forget, which ever position your team ends up at the end of the League play, is the position you will be going out at the end of the year tournament. Good luck teams!

The lies started early this week, before the first shot of the day.

Now for the individual league leaders, with 3 weeks to go and a possibility of 6 points:

Bill Gallagher is leading by 2.5 over newbie Tom Wieland. But with Bill needing a sub next week, it will ‘help’ the rest of the group to catch up

With Kevin and I playing each other next week, this will hurt one of our chances. Plus, I’ll be on vacation in 2 weeks, so I can only win a total of 4 points. That’s not going to cut it. Next weeks standings should look a lot closer (maybe).

Low Net:

It’s going to hard to beat the net 26 posted by Bill Oravec.

Low Gross:

It hard to get on this board with Duncan keeps shooting par and Brian Nick with his 39 but these guys are subs. On the other hand, "leaguer" Gene Patrizzi shot a gross 39 but because of the previous mention players and the fact that B comes before G, Gene is number 4 on this list. I want to mention this fact, because the golf program doesn’t choose between subs and regulars while doing this stat.

Forget Team Net and Team Gross, usually the teams upon the top of this list has a "dummy" player on the team. Team Net "might" be a little truer, but not much.

SandBagger of the week:

Great, my next opponent – Kevin "You’re going down Deyette!!" Kearns. I for one would like to say, good round Kevin. Your hcp came down a stroke! Great round Kevin!

Byrdie Club:

Only one returnee: Kevin "You’re going down Deyette!!" Kearns who birdie the par 5 4th hole. Great shot Kevin!

Eagle Club:

No new members. Can you call this a club if there is only 1 member?

End-of-the-year tournament:

Oct 10th at St. Annes

Players needing subs for next week:

Ron, Ted, Gene, Bill G, and Mat - anyone else?

Dave
(Work) 413-794-9031
(Cell) 413-887-8296

Standings After Week 13:

2) Gallagher / Williams (45.0 points)
9) Pierce / Wieland (44.0 points)
7) Myers / Patrizzi (36.5 points)
5) Cowles / Morano (34.5 points)
3) Kearns / Russell (33.5 points)
10) Oravec / Plant (30.0 points)
1) Deyette / Stadnicki (29.5 points)
6) Hemphill / Waid (25.0 points)
8) Galiszuski / Stadnicki (23.5 points)
4) Carey / Frankel (23.5 points)

John looks on jealously at Kevin's one pink ball.

The post-game spread.

Week 12

A good night for golf and once I again our thanks go out to Airways for the free use of the carts!

End of the league is coming quickly – August 31st.

The team of Gallagher / Williams is holding a slim 1 point lead over the team of Pierce / Wieland (formally known as Sand / Bagger). The team of Oravec / Plant slowed down the first place team while the team of Deyette / Stadnicki were merely a ‘little’ speed bump for the fast pace team of Pierce / Wieland.

Next up for Gallagher / Williams is the team of Hemphill / Waid and next for Pierce / Wieland is the team of Cowles / Morano.

SandBagger of the Week:

Paul "I gladly buy a pitcher of beer" Morano shot a fine net 31. Great round Paul!

Byrdie Club:

One new member: Paul "I gladly buy a pitcher of beer" Morano. Paul birdied the 14th hole. Paul’s opponent was heard to say (or laugh), "We’re drinking now! Good shooting Paul"

Eagle Club:

No takers of President Kearns reduced membership fee.

I wonder if there is a reversed SandBagger of the Week, award? Not only did I get beat (by Tom) but my handicap went down a stroke!!

Don’t forget:

St. Annes – October 10th

If you need a sub.

Dave
(Work) 413-794-9031
(Cell) 413-887-8296

Standings After Week 12:

2) Gallagher / Williams (43.0 points)
9) Pierce / Wieland (42.0 points)
7) Myers / Patrizzi (32.5 points)
5) Cowles / Morano (31.5 points)
3) Kearns / Russell (30.5 points)
10) Oravec / Plant (29.0 points)
1) Deyette / Stadnicki (25.0 points)
4) Carey / Frankel (23.0 points)
6) Hemphill / Waid (22.0 points)
8) Galiszuski / Stadnicki (21.5 points)

Not one, not two, but three balls in the sand!
