Week 16 (Final)

The moon rises over the end of another season.

Congratulations to: Joe Alvarez and Ted Cowles – the 2012 Phoenix Golf League Champions!

Team Hemphill / Oravec kept it close until the 16th hole when the Alvarez / Cowles shot a par / bogie to put the match away.

Great year gentlemen!
Not only was Ted Cowles part of the Championship team but also took the individual golf standings with 21.50 points.

Great year Ted!
It was good to see Anne Llewellyn back on the course.  Anne quickly made her presence felt by taken the closest to the pin prize on the par 3 10th hole.  The winning shot ending up 11 feet 9 inches from the flag stick. Did she make the birdie putt, please see the Byrdie Club to find out.  Welcome back and great shot Anne!

Also making a cameo appearance last night was Malcolm Powell

Hopefully we will be seeing more of Anne and Malcolm in the future!

SandBagger of the Week:

Dave "How to Drop Your Handicap By Two Strokes" Deyette.  All I heard was Gene saying, "Will you stop missing those birdie putts!" But all in all, I ended up with a net 29!

Byrdie Club:

Ed Williams shot his bird on the par 5 11th hole. Great shot Ed!

Eagle Club:

Doubled it’s membership this week when Gene Patrizzi, while playing against the only other member of the Eagle Club, chipped in for his eagle on the par 4 18th hole.  This goes to show you that you don’t have to drive the 18th green to get an eagle.  Great shot Gene.
(and the pitcher was beer – root beer!)

Wow the team standings sure got shuffled around last night.

Final Standings:

5)  Alvarez / Cowles (52.0 points) - CHAMPIONS
1)  Deyette / Stadnicki (43.0 points)
6)  Hemphill / Oravec (42.0 points)

Week 15

First – thank-you for the card.  My wife and I appreciated it.

The 1st place team of Alvarez / Cowles did not put it away this week, coming up .5 point short of a Championship.  The team of Deyette (Billeter) / Stadnicki rained on their parade by taking 4.5 points from the leaders.  This will allow the 2nd place team of Hemphill / Oravec to play Alvarez / Cowles for the Championship next week.  Hemphill / Oravec will have to play pitcher perfect golf (get it) to over come a 5 point deficit.  If there is a tie, we will have a play-off, starting on the 10th hole.

Not only does Ted Cowles have a shot at the Championship, he also has a slim 1 point lead over his next week’s opponent John Hemphill for the Individual Golf Standings.

SandBagger of the Week:

Mark Stadnicki, got his revenge, I mean shot a fine net round of 26.  Not that Mark wanted to get avenge when Kearns / Russell shot the 39 against him. Great round Mark!

Byrdie Club:
Mark Stadnicki shot his bird on the par 4 5th hole.  Gene Patrizzi kept his birdie run by birding the par 4 9th hole and Nick Billeter got his 1st bird on the par 4 6th hole.  Great shooting Gentlemen!

Eagle Club:

None this week.

Week 14

Well my pc is still down, so I have to do this the old fashion way.

Dave's PC isn't the only thing that crashed this week.  Meyer's cart took a trip into the stream behind the 16th green.

Two weeks left:

So much for trying to gain ground on the vacationing Alvarez / Cowles, they now have a 7.5 lead over  the 2nd place teams of Hemphill / Oravec and Kearns / Russell.  Sorry to say, the rest of the teams are mathematically out of the race for 1st place. Alvarez / Cowles magic number is 3.5.  Any wins adding to 3.5 or losses by the 2nd place teams adding to 3.5 and we have a new league Champions.

Next opponent for Alvarez / Cowles is team Deyette / Stadnicki (pressures on!).

SandBagger of the Week:

First it was nice to see Mark Hawkes back on the course this week.  I just wish his opponent treated him better.  Mike Galiszewski. greeted Mark with a net round of 31.  Great shooting Mike!

Byrdie Club:

Let’s start with the newbie: John Hemphill who got his 1st bird on the par 4 18th.

The golfers adding to their birdie totals:
  • Meyer Frankel birdied the par 4 14th hole
  • Rob Pierce birdied the par 3 15th hole.
  • Gene Patrizzi birdied both the par 4 12th and par 4 14th holes.
  • Bill "I'm the King" Gallagher, not wanting to be out done by his subjects, birdied the par 4 18th.  Great shooting gentlemen!
Note on Bill G's birdie: he drove the green on 18.
Side note – Lenny also drove the green on 18.
Bill G's drive on 18.

Eagle Club:
Has been resurrected; Dave Deyette eagled the par 5 11th hole.  Dave’s (my) 2nd shot went 3 feet past the pin.  There was no pressure (not much).  But I did have to wait for the camera crew (Kevin) to set up and get ready before I could putt. Great shot Dave!

Week 13

It was a beautiful night for golf.

It was good to see Ellen Panagrosso back on the course.

Three weeks left to the season. I don’t know if this is a strategic move but the 1st place team of Alvarez and Cowles will be off next week on vacation.

Team Standings:

Alvarez / Cowles widened their lead over 2nd place of Hemphill / Oravec by 7 points.

Individual Standings:

Ted’s magic number is 3 (points). He’s making it a little tougher to reach, that goal, by going on vacation. Ted, how long will it take you to drive back from Maine?

Ted has a 3.50 point lead over his playing partner Joe (15.50), who is also on vacation next week.  This will allow John (15.50), Manny (15.50) and Ed (14.00) to make up some ground.

SandBagger of the Week:

Bill "Bring Them On" Oravec, who shot a net of 26, matching his 2010 low net. Great round Bill!

Byrdie Club:

Bill "Bring Them On" Oravec on the way to his low net of 26, birdied the par 4 1st hole and the par 4 6th hole.  Kevin "Killer" Kearns added to his birdie total, by birding the par 4 6th hole.  Ellen "This Is My First Time Out" Panagrosso got her first bird of the season of the par 3 7th hole.

Great shooting golfers!

Note – Ellen lipped out her birdie putt on the 3rd hole and just missed birdied putts on the 5th and 6th hole, leaving tap-in par putts and Lenny was giving her a stroke to boot!

Bill was on the phone a long time last night – I think he was talking to his financial advisor. He wanted to know if buying 2 birdie pitchers would put a dent in his portfolio!

Maybe Bill was talking to Dave?

I think the Stadnicki boys just bring out the best in golfers (Bill O. played against Mark).
