End of Season Outing and Banquet

It was a great day for golf. The rain held off or should I say it didn’t rain on the course.

Tournament Champions:

The team of John Hemphill, Ron Waid, Bill Oravec and Steve Plant – shot a 1 under 71 (without getting a birdie) thanks to Ron Waid chipping in for an eagle on the 11th hole.

Closet to the Pin:

Bill "Irish" Gallagher shot came within 5’7” inches from the cup. (about the same distance my drive was off the tee!)

The team did get the bird. A matter of fact the team (Bill G, Herm, Rob, and Shaun) got more birdies than the rest of the teams combined but they also (as a team) had the most bogies than any other teams. Great shot Bill!

Longest Drive:

Mike Galiszuski – Mike had 14 holes to practice for the longest drive and he roped one done the middle. Mike ended of his long drive with a 20 foot putt for a par! Nice Drive Mike!

I had a great time with the league this year and I want thank you for the gift of motor oil.
I’m hoping to see everyone next year! If I don’t see you by then, have a great off season!

Dave

Not if I have anything to say about it!

Week 16 (Final)

What a beautiful night to end our season!

Congratulations to the team of Larry Myers and Gene Patrizzi! The new Phoenix Golf League Champions!!! Larry and Gene held off the "youngsters" of Dave Housman and Paul Morano to win the league championship.

I just hope the team of Myers / Patrizzi stays together. You know how, once a team wins a championship, the players look for the almighty dollar and farm themselves out to the highest bidder.

Once again congratulations to Larry and Gene, the 2009 Phoenix Golf League Champions!

Week 15

Well the last "regular" week of golf is finished. Next week the Championship round. Not too much has changed from last week, except, it is now a 2 team race for the Championship. First place team of Myers / Patrizzi and second place team of Housman / Morano will be pairing off together with only a slim 2.5 points separating them.

Since I had to leave early, I didn’t get any details of the great shots that everyone had.

SandBagger of the Week:

Kevin "How come I couldn’t shoot this against Deyette last week" Kearns took the top honors with a net 31. Great round Kevin! (Whew)

Byrdie Club:

I got no one – really no one?

Thanks John E Hemphill for grabbing the cards for me.

John E Hemphill?

Week 14

There was a lot of "shade golfing" played last night.

2 more weeks – 1 regular and the championship.

The Team Leaders:

The team of Myers / Patrizzi hold a slim 2.5 lead over the team of Housman / Morano. With the team of Oravec / Plant 4.5 points behind in 3rd place.

Up next for Myers / Patrizzi is team Mackin / Pierce. Can Shaun and Rob play the spoiler, next week?

The Individual Point Leader:

Dave Deyette is leading with 19 points with Paul Morano in 2nd place with 17.5 points. Dave can win the IPL with a 1 point win or a Paul 1 point loss over the next 2 weeks. How is this mathematically possible with 2 week remaining, you ask. Well you see the team of Housman / Morano both need subs for next week. Paul is hoping that his sub will shoot low next week.

SandBagger of the Week:

Bill "start Brady Quinn as QB" Oravec, went low with a net 27. Great round Bill.

Byrdie Club:

Wow 6 birdies last night, 4 returnees and 2 newcomers. The returnees are Meyer Frankel who got his bird on the par 5, 11th. Mark Stadnicki, who started off his round with a bird on the 10th and Hermann Keilich, who also birdied the 11th hole. Tom Wieland, who birdied the 13th hole. The newbies are Dave Housman with a birdie on the 18th and Malcolm Powell with his bird on the par 3, 13th. Great shooting gentlemen!

Don’t forget – Rolling Meadows September 12th @ 11:00 am.

Subs for next week:

Dave Housman and Paul Morano.

Dave

Standings After Week 14:

7) Myers / Patrizzi (43.0 points)
5) Housman / Morano (40.5 points)
10) Oravec / Plant (38.5 points)
6) Hemphill / Waid (37.0 points)
1) Deyette / Stadnicki (36.5 points)
2) Gallagher / Keilich (33.5 points)

Len's approach shot on 16.

How did he do?

Week 13

One hot night for golf!

It was good to see Malcolm back on the course.

Hi Malcolm!

SandBagger of the Week:

Or should I say Sandbaggers: Bill Gallagher and Mat Carey. Both shot a net round of 29. Great rounds, gentlemen.

*Note, for the last 2 weeks, who-ever played Lenny got the SandBagger of the week award. Next up for Lenny is Manny.

Byrdie Club:

2 returnees and 1 new: Kevin Kearns with a monster drive on the 1st hole, got his bird and Mike Galiszuski got his bird on the 9th hole. Newbie Brian Nick birdied the 6th hole. Great shots, gentlemen!

*note – Kevin needs to bring more money to the course. This is the 2nd week in a row he got a bird!

Birdie man with his birdie pitcher!

Three weeks left (2 regular and the Championship round). Team of Myers / Patrizzi, still have a comfortable lead over the rest of the league with 6 points over the 2nd place team of Housman / Morano. Gene’s starting to peak at the right time. I heard from Brian Nick, that Gene was having a great time kicking Brian’s butt last night (Brian was giving Gene a stroke).

Total point leader:

Dave Deyette has a slim 1.5 points over Paul Morano (who plays each other in two weeks). Will it come down to this match or will Larry Myers or Mark Stadnicki win enough points to pass the leaders. 3 more weeks, it’s still up in the air.

Our fearless leader.

For those who haven’t heard, Mat Carey got a new job starting Monday. Hopefully he’ll still be able to play, because his first pay check, he’s buying!!

Quote of the Week: "I went into the woods and came out with a handful of balls!"

Subs for next week: Ron Waid

If you need a sub, let me know.

End of the Year Tournament:

Rolling Meadows (Ellington)
September 12th @ 11:00

There was talk of playing best ball for the tournament, teams of 4. If no ones has a problem with this, I’ll set it up this way.

Dave

Standings After Week 13:

7) Myers / Patrizzi (41.5 points)
5) Housman / Morano (35.5 points)
10) Oravec / Plant (34.5 points)
6) Hemphill / Waid (34.0 points)
8) Galiszuski / Stadnicki (32.5 points)
1) Deyette / Stadnicki (32.5 points)
2) Gallagher / Keilich (30.0 points)
9) Mackin / Pierce (29.0 points)
3) Kearns / Russell (28.0 points)
4) Frankel / Carey (27.5 points)

Why is Brian standing that way? Or do we not want to know?

This week's singalong: "If you're a doofus and you know it, raise your finger!"

Week 12

Four more weeks to go.

If you have seen the email, we get golf carts for the remainder of the league play (if you want).

Myers / Patrizzi team are holding a very nice lead over the second play team of Hemphill / Waid. Kearns / Russell are no longer in last place. Is there enough time to make their move??

Dave Deyette is holding 1 points lead over the fast moving Larry Myers. Any bets?

SandBagger of the Week:

Shaun Mackin shot a very fine net 25, over my playing partner Len. Lenny had nothing bad to say about Shaun round, then again …. Da dum dum. Great round Shaun!

* It’s funny how just a week before Rob mentioned that Shaun and him were SandBaggers of the week "many" times last year. Hmm.

Speaking of Shaun and Rob . . .

Byrdie Club:

Two returnees: John Hemphill, who got his bird on the 12th hole and Kevin Kearns on the 11th hole. Great shooting gentlemen!

* I’m assuming that Kevin got a picture, I mean pitcher of beer!

End of the Year Tournament:

Rolling Meadows (Ellington)
September 12th
11:00 am

Subs for next week:

Shaun, Hermann, Larry, and Steve

If you need a sub let us know.

Week 11

I’ve been doing this league for many moons and finally Tom Wieland played as a sub! (More on Tom, later.)

Tom is engaged in deep conversation with Bill O.

Reminders:

1) If you haven’t paid off your dues, please do so now.
2) Rolling Meadows – Saturday September 12th @ 11:00

I was trying to convince Bill O. that 3 pars are as good as a birdie and he should buy a pitcher!

There were a lot of pictures taken, last night. Especially the one of Shaun’s iron shot. For those who haven’t seen it and I don’t think there were many that didn’t, it should be on the blog later on.

Shaun's iron shot.

5 more weeks to go and the team of Kearns / Russell still have a mathematical chance to 3-peat but they will need help.

SandBagger of the Week:

A quote from the SandBagger: "I suck and my handicap should be higher than a 21". Spoken like a true sandbagger, Tom Wieland, that’s not going to happen. Tom shot a net 26. Great round Tom. Glad to see you on the course. (More on Tom, later.)

Byrdie Club:

One new member and if you haven’t guessed already, it is Tom Wieland. Tom birdied the 9th hole to round off his of 47. Nice shot Tom!

It didn’t take Tom long to learn the birdie rule as came through with a pitcher of beer.

Quote of the Week: "Can somebody tell Manny that the league has moved to Wednesday night?"

Subs for next week: me and Bill G.

If you need sub let me know before Friday.
If you need one after Friday morning, let Meyer know.

Also please double check your adding, let one or two other members add it up too. If you have to, use the eraser. I have the cards if anyone has a question about their scores.

Dave

Standings After Week 11:

7) Myers / Patrizzi (35.0 points)
6) Hemphill / Waid (31.0 points)
5) Housman / Morano (30.0 points)
1) Deyette / Stadnicki (28.0 points)
10) Oravec / Plant (27.5 points)
8) Galiszuski / Stadnicki (26.5 points)
9) Mackin / Pierce (26.0 points)
2) Gallagher / Keilich (26.0 points)
4) Frankel / Carey (24.0 points)
3) Kearns / Russell (21.0 points)

This needs to somehow be worked into the blog as a weekly award.

Mat makes a picture perfect recovery from the bunker.

Okay. What's the story behind that shirt?

Week 10

This was the first week that everyone showed up for golf. No Subs.

I want to welcome Mark Stadnicki as a permanent member of the Phoenix Golf League. Which leads me to …

SandBagger of the Week:

Well it didn’t take too long for the new recruit to get this honor: Mark Stadnicki. Mark shot a fine 28 net (44 gross). His opponent (Mat) probably wished Mark would get this award next week instead of this week. Great round Mark!

Byrdie Club:

Two new members: John "This putt is going to cost me" Hemphill made his short birdie putt on 2 (I made him putt it) and Mark "The SandBagger of the Week" Stadnicki, who got his bird on the 9th hole. Good shots, gentlemen!

*note – Mark did pony up the money for the pitcher.

Sub needed for next week: Mike G.

Vacations are coming up let me know if you need a sub.

Dave

Standings After Week 10:

7) Myers / Patrizzi (35.0 points)
5) Housman / Morano (29.5 points)
8) Galiszuski / Stadnicki (26.5 points)
6) Hemphill / Waid (26.0 points)
2) Gallagher / Keilich (26.0 points)
1) Deyette / Stadnicki (25.5 points)
10) Oravec / Plant (25.0 points)
9) Mackin / Pierce (21.0 points)
4) Frankel / Carey (19.5 points)
3) Kearns / Russell (16.0 points)

Larry and Gene plot to destroy the League through their dominance.

Larry and Gene's plot to destroy the league through their dominance takes a slight detour into the woods.

Like a moth to a flame, John is drawn to the beer cart.
