2016 End of Season Outing and Banquet

Wow did we luck out on the weather.  (I wish my golf game was as lucky!)

I like to thank St. Anne’s – the course was in good shape, even after the down-pour.  The food was excellent and they even gave us a break on the price.  You can’t ask for anything more (maybe the 6 foot putt for birdie on the 6th hole, but that another story!).

First off – I would like to pass on our well wishes to Dave W.
My goal (it might be impossible) is to pick a tournament date that we all can play!   Manny \ Zogger – it was pouring buckets.  Oh wait, that was before we teed off!  We missed you guys on the course.

Meyer did a great job managing the money… every team got a prize.

Tournament Play:

1st place team with 3 under: Kevin, Mark, Ed and Larry
2nd place team was a tie after matching cards: John, Bill O., T.C. and Bill G.
3rd Place team: Dave, Len, Meyer, and Brian
4th place team: Bill D., Tom, Joe, and Ted

                Longest drive: Bill D.
Closest to the pin: Joe @ 4’7”

League Play:

1st place team: Kevin Kearns and Manny Russell
2nd place team: Larry Meyers and Ed Williams

1st place total points:  Kevin Kearns
2nd place total points: Bill Deyette

Low net of the year:  Bill Oravec

Man our zingers were a little quiet yesterday.  I guess we can’t have Kevin and Larry on the same team.  So I had to come up with some of my own;

Why did Meyer have extra money at the end of the year?   The price of gas went down!  Da Dum Dum!
And I’m not even going to repeat the one about: where is “someone’s” sleeve of balls.

Thank you everyone for my gift!

I had an great time this year and I hope to see every one next year!

Week 16 (Final)

Our last night of golf almost ended as the first night of golf – but the rain stopped and we got the round in.

Congratulations go to:
  • Kevin Kearns and Manny Russell – the 2016 Phoenix Golf League Champions!
  • Kevin Kearns for the Golfer with most wins for 2016: 24.50
  • Bill Oravec for the low net of the year: 25  (what Kevin didn’t win this too??)
With Manny and Zog not able to play in the tournament, I’m moving Mark up with Kevin.  So in saying that, this is how we will be teeing off at the tournament:

Kearns / Stadnicki - Myers / Williams
Deyette / Stadnicki - Frankel / White
Confrey / Gallagher - Hemphill / Oravec
Alvarez / Cowles - Deyette / Wieland

If anyone can’t play in the tournament, please let me know.
More to come in the next few weeks.

I will not be around next Tuesday, so if you want to golf next week…reply to this email so everyone would know who wants to play.

SandBagger of the Week:

Last SandBagger of the season goes to Ed Williams for shooting a fine net 33. Good round Ed!

Week 15

This was Mike’s last night playing the Phoenix Golf League. We all want to wish Mike the best of luck on his new adventure!

With the team of Kearns / Russell only winning 2 points but the team of Myers / Williams losing 1.5 point  …….  Drum Roll…..

The 2016 Phoenix Golf League Champions are …… Kearns / Russell!  Congratulations Kevin and Manny!  (and this was with Kevin "forgetting" his clubs).

Individual Top Golfer:  with Bill Deyette only winning 1 point and Kevin Kearns winning 2 point, this puts Bill 2 points back with one week to go. The worst Kevin can do is tie for 1st place.  All Kevin needs is a .5 point win or Bill loses .5 point to lock up the top spot.

With one more week left, can Bill Oravec’s net 25 stand?  We’ll see next week.

Next week is the Championship round or now it is position night.  How your team end up in the standings, determines your tee times in the tournament:

1st / 2nd place will tee off first.
3rd / 4th place will tee off 2nd.
5th / 6th – 3rd.
7th / 8th – last.

We’ll only have 8 teams because Zog, Manny, Abbott, and Costello can’t make it.

SandBagger of the Week:

Len "E" Stadnicki, who said on the 16th hole, "I’m just punching it down by the stream" and he did just that.  We all assumed he was talking about before the stream, not over the stream.  Nice round Len!

Byrdie Club:

T.C bagged his bird on the par 5 16th hole. Great shooting TC!

Eagle Club:

With one week left, is there anyone joining King Kevin Kearns?

Week 14

Welcome goes out to Jim Brislin or JB.  It was good to see him on the course!

Two more weeks to go and it looks like the team of Kearns / Russell has a solid lead in the team standings.  They just need to win 2.5 points or a 2.5 points loss from team Myers / Williams, in the next 2 weeks to lock up their 4th title since 2007.  Can you say Dynasty?

Up next for:

Kearns / Russell is Frankel / White
Myers / Williams is BDeyette / Wieland

It’s a two man race for the individual top golfers spot, between Kevin Kearns and Bill Deyette.  Kevin has a slim one point lead with two weeks to go.

Closest to the Pin on the 7th hole:

I liked the pin placement, right in front.  How many people, after their tee shot, wished they took more club?

Congratulations go to Mark Stadnicki for winning a dozen Titleist balls with a length of 23 feet.  Nice shot Mark!

SandBagger of the Week:

Wow – we have a threesome: Meyer Frankel, Bill Gallagher, and Joe Alvarez – all shot a fine net round of 33.  Great round, Gentlemen!

Byrdie Club:

Joe Alvarez ended his round by bagging his bird on the par 4 9th hole.  Also getting a bird on the 9th hole was Mark Stadnicki.  Great shots, Gentlemen!

Eagle Club:

Kevin’s getting lonely!

Week 13

The Eagle slump is over!!!!

Three more weeks to go.

Larry, you are not playing Kevin, but you can have a side bet (if Kevin’s not afraid).

Next up for the 1st place team of Kearns / Russell is the rising team of Stadnicki / Zogbaum.

League Leaders: Wow – with both Kevin Kearns and Bill Deyette losing this week, they brought 4 more golfers into the mix.

SandBagger of the Week:

Ted Cowles shot a fine net round of 29.  Great round Ted!

Byrdie Club:

Ed Williams bagged his first bird of the year on the par 4 14th hole.  Czar Stadnicki (M) – down his bird on the par 5 11th hole, just missing his eagle putt.  Mike "I’m Florida Bound" Galiszuski – once again chipped in his bird on the par 3 15th – déjà vu.  Nice shooting Gentlemen!

Eagle Club:

Kevin "The Eagle" Kearns sunk his eagle putt on the par 5 11th hole.  The last time the league scored an eagle was back in 2013.   Fantastic putt, Kevin!

Mike how many more weeks do we have the privilege of playing golf with you?

Week 12

Four more weeks to go: three regular, and the Championship round.

Saying that:
  • It looks like it’s a two horse race for the "Points" leaders: Kevin Kearns (18.50) has a 1 point lead over Bill Deyette (17.50).  Everyone else is fighting for 3rd place.
  • Kearns / Russell (40.00) have a 7 point lead over last year’s champions: Hemphill / Oravec ☺.  Can Kearns / Russell make it 4 more weeks?  Next up for the 1st place team is: Confrey / Gallagher.
SandBagger of the Week:

Bill Oravec, once again, takes the top honor by shooting a net round of 30. (and once again his handicap goes lower).  Great round Bill!

Byrdie Club:

Bill Deyette bagged his bird on the par 4 5th hole.  While Kevin Kearns downed his bird on the easiest hole on the course, the par 4 3rd hole.  And Larry Myers birdied the 9th hole.  Great putting Gentlemen!

Eagle Club:

Nada (But I heard someone drove the green on the 9th hole!  What there’s no name birding the 9th hole in the Byrdie Club!! ☹)

Week 11

Yes Virginia, there is a Rob Pierce.

Mike is off to FLA to look for place to stay.  His time in New England is winding down.
Man now I know what my mistake was when I was looking for my ball.  I was looking on the ground.  Check out where Zogger’s ball ended up.  I know where my ball ended up, the same place my golf game went!

SandBagger of the Week:

Co-SandBagger of the Week: Dave White and Manny Russell both shot net rounds of 30. Great round gentlemen!

Byrdie Club:

There was a flock of birdies: Joe Alvarez downed his bird on the par 5 11th hole – so did TC, Bill G., Bill D..  Man the 11th hole is a good hunting spot!. Dave White bagged his bird on the par 5 16th hole.  Nice shooting gentlemen!

Week 10

Well we got Kyle Graves back on the golf course, maybe will see Rob next?

Next up for 1st place team of Kearns / Russell is the team of Deyette / Wieland.

There was a rumor going around that Mike might have sold his condo??

SandBagger of the Week:

Is it my imagination or since Cleveland won the championship, Bill Oravec has been on a golfing frenzy. Just a few weeks ago he had a 18 hcp….not any more!  Bill O shot a fine 30 net.  Also shooting a 30 net to help keep his team in 1st place was Manny Russell.  Great shooting gentlemen!

Bill O will have to bring his A game for his opponent next week: Lou Costello

Byrdie Club:

Dave Zogbaum shot his bird on the par 3 7th hole.  Joe Alvarez started off birding the par 4 1st hole.  I often wondered if, like Joe, is it good getting the bird on the 1st hole and then having to wait 8 more holes for the pitcher of beer or is it better to get your bird like Bill Deyette and Dave White.  They got their birds on the 9th hole and it was a short wait for their pitchers of beer. (It’s all about the beer!).  Great putting, gentlemen!

Week 9

Made another week.

Starting next week Bill Gallagher will have a new team-mate, Tom Confrey.

With 7 weeks to go, can the team of Kearns and Russell hold on or did they peak too early?

I’m not saying I was getting nervous with Larry and Kevin playing behind us, but the last 2 holes I was keeping a close eye on them.

There we no barns shots on the 10th tee but I heard there were a couple hits from the 18th tee.  I mean it was very loud, everyone heard them!

SandBagger of the Week:

Bill "LBJ" Oravec was channeling LeBron James and shot a very low net of 25.  Nice round Bill!

Byrdie Club:

A few birdies tonight, Len Stadnicki who had a legitimate eagle putt (no suspense here or he would be mentioned in the Eagle Club) had a nice tap in bird on the par 5 11th hole.  While Meyer Frankel drained his bird on the par 4 18th hole.  Nice shooting Gentlemen!

Week 8

We’re at the half way point.  It’s still anyone’s ball game.

Matches to watch next week:
  • The first place team of Kearns / Russell will be playing the 2nd place team of Myers / Williams and only 2.5 points separate them.
  • Stadnicki vs Stadnicki – and one of the Stadnicki’s getting 3 strokes.
Happy 81st birthday to Larry Myers, on Thursday. Since you’ll be one year older for next week, as a birthday gift, you’re getting one stroke from your opponent.

SandBagger of the Week:

Len "I have to give Mark how many strokes!!!!" Stadnicki shot a fine net round of 30.  Great round, Len!

We’re getting spoiled.  It was another beautiful night for golf.

SandBagger of the Week:

Wow… after his tee shot on the 10th hole, Ed Williams turned his game around and shot a fine 28 net.  Great round, Ed!

Byrdie Club:

We got 2 newbies to the club:  Mike Galiszuski made a fine birdie putt on the par 3 10th hole and Dave Zogbaum capped off his fine round by birding the par 4 18th hole.  Great shooting, Gentlemen!

Week 5

Beautiful night for golf!

I’m looking at Sunday Sept 11th for the St. Anne’s golf tournament.  Any reason not to??

Last night’s Bro Match: Big Brother Bill beat me by 1.  That was for the Bro Match.  For league play, it was a different story (since he was giving me 5 strokes).

SandBagger of the Week:

Dave White took over the low net for the season by scoring a net of 30.  Retirement is doing Dave’s golf game, good.  Great round Dave!

Byrdie Club:
We had 2 newbies: Joe "My Handicap is 27" Alvarez, bagged his bird on the par 5 12th hole and SandBagger of the Week: Dave White downed his bird on the par 3 15th hole. Nice shots, gentlemen.

Week 4

Three weeks in-a-row.  Can we make it fore?
The question of the night,  did I work on my handicap because I’m playing my brother next week?

SandBagger of the Week:

Mark Stadnicki, who shot a fine net 33.  Great round, Mark!  I’m not saying Mark could have gone lower, but imagine what he would have shot if he played the 9th hole from the 9th fairway and not the 1st fairway!

Byrdie Club:
Big Brother Bill Deyette – Bill birdied the par 5 4th hole. Nice shooting Bill!  (lower that handicap)

Eagle Club:

Week 3

Wow – 2 weeks in a row!  Can we make it 3?

No Barn shots last night, but there were a few close calls.

SandBagger of the Week:

Tom Wieland: in true sandbagger fashion, Tom shoots a low net of 34 and his hcp stays the same.  Tom is striving to be a Master Sandbagger, who gets low net and his hcp goes up.  Nice round Tom

Byrdie Club:

Kevin Kearns had a gimme tap in birdie putt on the par 5 11th hole and Bill Oravec had a fine birdie on the par 4 12th hole.  Great shooting gentlemen.

Eagle Club:

Someone had a legitimate eagle try on the 11th hole but didn’t have enough money to buy 2 pitchers of beer.

End-of-the-Year Tournament:

Week 2

All I know about last night’s golf round was: It wasn’t raining!!!!

Ed Williams is on his way down to New Jersey for the birth of his grandson.  (future PHL golfer?)  Also I hear Tom Wieland is waiting on his daughter and Dan’s 3rd little girl.  Congratulations to the grampas!

SandBagger of the Week:

Ted Cowles shot a fine net round of 33.  Great shooting Ted!

Byrdie Club:

Czar Stadnicki won’t have a problem getting a seat in a restaurant, since he’s a party of one!  No birds this week.

Eagle Club:

Week 1

It was touch and go but we finally got our first week in!!!!

Hermann Keilich – due to work issues cannot play as a regular but is hoping he can sub.  Hermann, let me know if you can sub and I’ll get you in.  Good Luck Hermann!

The team of Hemphill and Oravec picked up where they left off from last year(in 1st place). But next week they’ll be playing the 2nd place team of Abbott and Costello.  One thing about the team of Abbott and Costello; they may act like ‘dummies’ but their game is consistent!

SandBagger of the Week:

Meyer Frankel shot a fine net round of 34.   I never did ask Meyer if he decided to play of the gold tees.  Great round Meyer!

(Hmmmmm…. The top 3 SanderBaggers were in the same group.  Did they all play from the golds???)

Byrdie Club:

Mark Stadnicki is back in the league and he starts off the 1st week, right.  Mark birdied the par 5 11th hole.  Nice shooting Mark.

So Czar Stadnicki is holding court.  He’s waiting for a few good men to join him! (place joke here)

Eagle Club:

We have 15 more weeks to bag that elusive eagle!

End-of-the-Year Tournament:
