Week 16 (Final)

Well we had a ‘flashy’ end to our Championship round! Oh wait, that was the lightning!!!  Our league ended the way it started, raining.

I think, only the 1st group out, didn’t get wet!

Did everyone see the downed Birch tree on the 14th hole?

WOW – I’m reviewing the stats and I didn’t see this coming!!!!!!!!

Low Net of the Year:

Net 25:  Dave Zogbaum – good round Zogger!

Net of 27:  Dave Deyette, Hermann Keilich and Terri Deyette

League Points Leader:

1st: Manny Russell            20.5
2nd: Ted Cowles                 19.5
3rd: Bill Oravec                   17.0

Good year Gentlemen!

Now for the Championship team!  The winning teams are:

Alvarez / Cowles  (48.5 points)
Hemphill / Oravec  (48.5 points)
Frankel / White  (48.5 points)

A 3 way tie for 1st!  When we left the course last night, I thought there was a 2 way tie…..Wow!  It was a close race this year and this proved it.

So for the tee times for the tournament… I’m taking the order the program set up:

1st           Alvarez / Cowles              Hemphill / Oravec
2nd          Frankel / White                 Kearns / Russell
3rd           DDeyette / TDeyette     Myers / Williams
4th           Confrey / LStadnicki        MStadnicki / Zogbaum
5th           Gallagher / Keilich            BDeyette / Wieland

SandBagger of the Week:

Terri ‘Pitcher of Mike’s’ Deyette shot a fine net round of 28.   Great shooting Honey!!!!

Byrdie Club:

Terri ‘Pitcher of Mike’s’ Deyette got her 1st bird (ever) on the par 5 4th hole!  Bill ‘ Irish’ Gallagher birdied the par 4 6th  hole (because he missed his eagle putt) and Mark ‘E’ Stadnicki  bagged his bird on the par 4 5th hole.  Great shooting golfers!

I saw both Lenny and Bill G.’s drives on the 6th hole.  Len missed the green about 5 feet to the right and Bill put his on.  It’s doesn’t matter how they got there…they had good shots at eagles.

Eagle Club:

No eagles for you!!!!

We had a closest to the pin on the 7th hole.  I know my ball had an aerial view of the green as it went by….. but no one hit the green.  So we gave the dozen golf balls to the lowest net round of the week, the person that got their 1st  birdie, the only women in the league…Terri Deyette.

I’ll be sending out more on the Tournament later.

End-of-the-Year Tournament:

Week 15

One week left!

Who can’t make the golf tournament????

I was asked about a ball being struck by another ball:

Rule 18-5:"If a ball in play and at rest is moved by another ball in motion after a stroke, the moved ball must be replaced."
Note 1: If a ball to be replaced under this Rule is not immediately recoverable, another ball may be substituted.

This is anywhere on the course, not just the green. – Dave

Wow – a lot of golfers shot a low gross round of 42.

Mathmatecally – the top 3 teams are fighting for 1st place.  But don’t forget, what ever position your team comes in at the end of the year, determines your tee time in the tournament.

The team of Hemphill / Oravec still hold a slim 2 point lead over the teams of, Alvarez / Cowles and Kearns / Russell.  In a surpising move (the software), the team of Alvarez / Cowles will be playing the team of Hemphill / Oravec in next week Championship round.

Next week tee times will look like this:

4:00        BDeyette / Wieland        vs            MStadnicki / Zogbaum
4:08        Gallagher / Keilich         vs            Confrey / LStadnicki
4:16        Myers / Williams            vs            DDeyette / TDeyette
4:24        Frankel / White               vs            Kearns / Russell
4:32        Alvarez / Cowles            vs            Hemphill / Oravec

League Leader:  Manny Russell holds a 1.5 point lead over Ted Cowles.  If Manny wins 1 point or Ted loses 1 point – advantage Manny.

Low net:  With the hcps dropping, it would be a miracle for someone to over take Zogger’s low net of 25.

SandBagger of the Week:

Meyer Frankel shot a low net of 29.  I don’t know if what the outcome would have been, if Meyer would have replaced his ball that was hit??  Good round Meyer!

Byrdie Club:

All newbies this week: Ed Williams bagged his bird on the par 4 12th hole, while both Meyer Frankel and Len Stadnicki sank their birds on the par 3 13th hole.  Great shots Gentlemen!

Eagle Club:

Nada – one more chance!!!

Week 14

Good to see Rob Pierce and Kyle Graves back on the course!

I guess 25% chance of making it back was good enough.

As of now, it looks like everyone can make the end-of-the-year tournament.

Two weeks left:

Next week is a regular week and in 2 weeks is the play-offs:  1st place team play 2nd, 3rd plays 4th……

Teams: Team of Hemphill / Oravec increased their lead over the team of Kearns / Russell, to 3 points.  (to thanks to Kyle and Rob).  Next up for Hemphill / Oravec is Kearns / Russell.   This could be a big swing in the standings and have the possibility to play each other, two weeks in a row!

Point Leaders:  Manny (18.5) is holding 1 point lead over Ted and 1.5 over Bill O.  Dave D and Kevin have a slim chance but needs a lot of help.

Low Net: Still Zogger (but the SandBagger of the Week, came real close to over-throwing or at least matching him) with a net of 25.

*note:  it was almost a father vs son match-up next week but Mark shot well enough lower his hcp to take over the A player spot.

SandBagger of the Week:

Terri Deyette – shot a fine 27 net.  I guess playing 5 times in 8 days paid off!  Great round Terri!
(but wait to see low low your hcp is when you drop your 67, next week)

Byrdie Club:

We had 3 – Kevin Kearns with a league leading 4 birdies, had his bird on par 4 9th hole.  TC down his bird on the par 3 7th hole and Kyle Graves bagged his bird on the par 5 4th hole.  Great shooting Gentlemen!

(and before Kevin says it:  since Kyle was playing for John…. John owes a birdie pitcher next week!)

Week 13

I over-heard someone saying, a gentle rain isn’t bad and it wasn’t because it only lasted 5 minutes.

I think there were more pity pitchers of beer than birdie pitchers, last night.

Is everyone going to view the eclipse??

The team of Hemphill / Oravec are still in 1st place but both of them will need subs next week…. against Gallagher / Keilich.

Three weeks left:

Individual Leaders:  Manny (18.5) has a slim lead over Ted and Bill O., both sitting at (17.0)

Low Net:  Zogger (25)

SandBagger of the Week:

This is a true team effort: The team of Kearns / Russell – both shot a net round of 30.  Great rounds Kevin and Manny!!

Byrdie Club:

We had 2 birds last night – Bill ‘Irish’ Gallagher bagged his first bird on the par 4 18th hole.  While Kevin Kearns downed his 3rd bird of the year on the par 4 12th hole.  Great shooting Gentlemen!

Week 12

Well it was raining in Maine… oh well it wasn’t in CT.

With 4 weeks left to the season, can the team of Hemphill / Oravec hold on to their slim 1 point lead over the 2nd place team of Alvarez / Cowles??

SandBagger of the Week:

Mark ‘E’ Stadnicki’s golf game is starting to come around.  Mark shot a fine net 32.  Great round Mark!

Byrdie Club:

We had two birds and they both came on the par 4 9th hole.  One by Dave White and the other from the SandBagger of the Week.  Great shots Dave and Mark!

Week 11

A nice warm night for golf!

Next time we play the back nine, we have to look for Terri’s Breast Cancer ball marker.  She lost it good, this time.

First place team of Hemphill / Oravec held off the team of Deyette / Deyette to maintain a 1.5 lead. Next up for the chance to knock them out of 1st place, is the team of Myers / Williams.

We’re in August and we still have 5 more weeks left of the season.

SandBagger of the Week:

Hermann Keilich shot a fine round of net 27.  Nice round, Hermann!

Byrdie Club:

Bill Oravec, chipped in his bird from back of the green on the par 4 17th hole.  Tom Confrey bagged his bird on the par 5 12th hole. Manny Russell grabbed his bird on the par 4 18th hole and the SandBagger Hermann Keilich started his round by birding the par 3 10th hole.  Great shooting Gentlemen!

Week 10

A nice fall evening for golf!  This will be a quick one….

SandBagger of the Week:

It seems that 2 week off from golf(?) did Dave White some good.  Dave shot a fine 30 net.  Great shooting Dave!

Byrdie Club:

A newbie: (see previous comment) Dave White bagged 2 birds, 1 on the par 5 4th hole and his 2nd bird on the par 4 8th hole.  Great shooting Dave!  (boy I’m glad I wasn’t playing Dave!)

Week 9

What a difference a couple of miles make!  We dodged a big ‘rain’ bullet, last night!  After golf, it was still raining at my house.

Just a heads up…starting next week Airways beer cups will come with a black line around the middle of the cup.

Can the League leaders, Hemphill / Oravec keep the momentum rolling??  Next team up: Frankel / White.  Can they slow down these golf juggernauts??

With Meyer in L.A., I’m going to have to get someone good (or lucky) to play against John.

Also some good news, Kevin Kearns got another job.  I hope his new boss is a golfer!!!  I need someone to play against John!

SandBagger of the Week:

Dave ‘Tiger’ Deyette put together a round with 7 pars to shoot a 27 net.  Great round Dave!  And thank-you Kevin for the beer! It was very refreshing!

Byrdie Club:

2 birds last night: League birdie leader; John ‘E’ Hemphill shot his bird on the par 4 14th hole and James Brislin got his 1st bird of the season on the par 3 10th hole! Great shots, Gentlemen!
And thanks for the beers.

Week 8

Lucked out last night, unless you hit into one of the many ponds!

Half way through the season. The team of Hemphill / Oravec have a slim .5  lead over the defending champion team of Kearns / Russell.  Up next for Hemphill / Oravec is the team of MStadnicki / Zogbaum and playing against Kearns / Russell will be the team of DDeyette / TDeyette. (you’re going down Kearns!!!!)

I thought the course was busy last night, but who let the deer play through??

Len ‘E’ Stadnicki posted a low net of 28. Great round Len!

HEY!!!!

First off, I see there was a closest to the pin on the 7th hole and the winner is:…….. Mr. Kevin Kearns – 4’ 3”.  Nice shot, Kevin!  See the Byrdie Club to find out if he made the bird.

Check out the picture where Terri and I went golfing…. look at the tee box..perfect!

Don’t forget, next Tuesday is the 4th of July.

SandBagger of the Week:

We have a tie: John ‘E’ Hemphill and returning from vacation, Tom Wieland, both shot a fine net of 30.  Great round, gentlemen!

Week 6

Thanks to Airways for the free carts!

Now those were the kind of June showers I like, very short.  If you were under a tree, you would have never notice it.

SandBagger of the Week:

This is going to be hard to beat…Zogger shooting a low net round of 25 AND he had the low gross round of 41.  Now that’s a sign of a true SandBagger!  Great round, Dave!

Byrdie Club:

We have 2 newbies to the club: John ‘E’ Hemphill had 2 bookend birds, one on the par 3 10th hole and the other on the par 4 18th hole.  Also getting a bird was the Sandbagger, getting his bird on the par 5 11th hole.  Great shooting Gentlemen!

Week 5

Not a bad night for golf.  What am I saying!!!!  I washed a few balls last night.

Week 3

Beautiful night for golf!

Wow, we had 3 confirmed barn hits and a few near misses.

Kearns 1 – Deyette 1 (I’m adding 1 to the Deyette side, even though I lost to Kevin but my wife beat him!)

SandBagger of the Week:

Hey at least my wife isn’t the (lone) sandbagger this week… Congrats to Bill and Terri Deyette for posting a net round of 34. Good round golfers!

Byrdie Club:

The weather is warming and so are the birdies: 2 this week – 1st bird of the year goes to Bill Deyette who bagged his bird on the par 5 11th hole.  Also birding the 11th hole was Ed Williams.  Great shots, gentlemen!
