2014 End of Season Outing and Banquet

Another golf year comes to a close.

I want to thank Meyer, great job keeping all the monies straight and great job with the prizes (Tom W., too!).

Also I want to thank Bill "The Blogger" Gallagher with keeping up the Phoenix Golf League blog (even though he was on the PUP list) and Kevin "Click-Click" Kearns for supplying us with golf pictures.

I want to thank St. Anne's for another great outing.  The course was in good shape and the food was excellent!

Winning Team:

Kevin Kearns, Manny Russell, Joe Alvarez and Bill Deyette.

I heard Joe is taking some Advil today because his back is so sore from carrying the team for the first 5 holes.

Good Round Gentlemen!

Coming in a close 2nd (1 back) was the team of Meyer Frankel, Dave White, Mike Galiszuski, and Ed Williams.

And then there was everyone, else!!

Long drive:

(Not Gene) – was it just me or was the 8th fairway, narrower than last year??

Bill Oravec won the longest drive.  Great drive Bill!

Closest to the Pin:

Tom Confrey 20’3” – great shot T.C.!

Not saying there was a little luck involved, but after the 4 of us hit our drives….I asked Lenny who’s ball was on the green.

T.C. hit a nice ‘tree’ iron and bounced onto the green.

I hope to see everyone next golf season.

Gene, if you need us for an "intervention", maybe we could talk your wife out of moving to Florida!  Wait what am I saying, she probably leave right then and there.

But seriously, if yesterday was our last time golfing together, it was a pleasure!

Till next year….

Week 16 (Final)

Congratulations to the team of Tom Confrey and Dave ZogbaumThey are the 2014 Phoenix League Champions!!

Just 4 weeks ago, Confrey / Zogbaum was solidly trenched in 5th place.  For the next 3 weeks, they took on all comers and they did not lose a single match.

Once again, congratulations: Tom and Dave!

*note : this is T.C.s 2nd championship in a row.

Individual Leader

Backing up his Champion team, Tom Confrey lead all golfers with a points total of 20.  Following Tom and in 2nd place, was Ed Williams with 18.50 points.  Len Stadnicki rounding off in 3rd place with 17.50 points..

Congratulations T.C.!

I would like to thank Airways for putting on a closest to the pin contest on the par 3 7th hole and the free golf carts.

There were 3 names on the list, so I would just like to mention the golfers.

Tom W. 300’4”   (is this the distance to the lady’s tee?)
Joe A.    39’2”

Closest to the hole winner:  Bill D.    22’10”

Congratulation to Bill Deyette, winner of the closest to the pin on the 7th hole.  Bill won a dozen (or 15) golf balls that were donation by Airways G.C..

SandBagger of the Week:

I wasn’t even thinking about this last night when I heard his score. But on the last week and even playing in the same 4some of the golfer who use to hold the low net of the year, Hermann Keilich shot the new low net for the Phoenix Golf League.  Hermann posted a net of 25, beating the ‘old’ low net of 28 held by Ted and Rob.  Great round Hermann!

Byrdie Club:

Two returnees: Rob Pierce shot his bird on the par 4 6th hole.  While Mike Galiszuski bagged his bird on the par 4 9th hole.  Great shooting Gentlemen!

SandBagger of the Week:

Up next for Deyette / Stadnicki is Hemphill / Oravec

Myers / Patrizzi will be playing the 3rd place team of Confrey / Zogbaum.  This match is pivotal

Championship Week the tee times will be the position your team is in:

2nd vs 1st

Individual Leaders:

Last week leaders, 3 were tied for 1st place and they won a combined points total of 0 and were quickly dropped down to 3 tied for 4th place.

With only 2 weeks left, it’s still open!

OK – is anyone NOT able to play the End-of-the-Year Tournament on Sunday September 21st, 2014?

Rob, if you’re bagging golf to go to the Red Sox game, at least go to a game that they win!

Bill Gallagher made a special appearance last night.  Bill played an unofficial round last night.  Check out how Bill did by checking out the Scoring Summary and Handicap Summary Report in the attached Stats.

SandBagger of the Week:
I was waiting for this SandBagger to show up and he picked a good time to do it. Although I don’t think Manny appreciated it.  Dave Zobaum shot a fine 29 net. Of course with this, comes a lower hcp!  Great Round Zogger!

Byrdie Club:
2 returnees and 1 newbie:  Ed Williams bagged his 2nd bird on the par 4, 9th hole. While Gene Patrizzi shot his 2nd bird on the par 5 4th hole and the SandBagger of the Week: Dave Zobaum birdied the par 4, 9th hole.  Great shots, Gentlemen!

Beautiful day for golf and an even better one on Thursday – oh wait that was up in Freedom N.H.!

It was nice to see our team was still in first place, thanks Mark and Bill! J

As of now it looks like everyone is showing up for the end of the tournament.  If not please let me know.

SandBagger of the Week:

What Ted Cowles???  Surprise!!  Ted shot a fine net 30.  Ted started the season with a 16 hcp and now is a 12 hcp.  This shows in the number of times, he’s ended up as the SandBagger of the Week - Great round Ted!

Week 12

Another gorgeous night of golf.

First off, I want to thank Airways for the golf carts.  It made finding our Golf balls a lot easier!!

I know for a fact that I have another member for the Red Barn Club,  because I was in the same 4 some when he plunked it off the barn: Zogger!

If you still owe on your League dues, please pay Meyer.

It was good to see Mark Hawkes back on the course again, at least that is what Tom Wieland was saying over and over again.

4 weeks left: 3 regular weeks and the last week for the Championship round.

Next week the first place team of Deyette / Stadnicki  will play against the 2nd place team of Myers / Patrizzi.  Only 1 stroke difference between the teams, with the stroke going to Gene.

SandBagger of the Week:
I wouldn’t call it SandBagging, more like skill.  So if you haven’t guessed, I’m the SandBagger of the Week with a net of 29.  Ok it was sandbagging, because I didn’t have to buy any birdie pitchers

Byrdie Club:

1 newbie and 2 returnees:  Gene Patrizzi shot his 1st bird on the par 4 18th hole and his opponent, Kevin Kearns also birdied the 18th hole.
Now my opponent, Tom Confrey birdied the par 5 11th hole and the par 4 18th hole.  Great shots gentlemen.

An amendment to the Byrdie Club:
There were 2 newbies (not 1).  T.C.  shot his 1st bird of the year on the par 5 11th and his 2nd bird of the year on the par 4 18th.

Week 11

Our condolences go out to Ed Williams and his family for the lost his brother.

It was over-heard last night that we should have postpone the golf matches because of the World Cup.  Good thing we didn’t, as USA lost a "close" one to Belgium, 2-1.

I heard that Bill Gallagher pulled through his operation with flying colors.  Bill and finger are doing well.

We’re putting this to a vote at the End-of-the-Year Tournament: for next year … everyone's name goes into a hat and teams are selected by pulling names.  Talk it over.

I did a little study about Gold Tees:

                                Beginning of the year     Now

Gene                        10                                     10

Larry                        16                                     15

Mike                        16                                     14

So it looks like, if you’re going to play one of the three, play Gene.  It doesn’t look like Gene is taking advantage to the Gold Tees!

4 more week until the Championship Week:

Next week, we have a mini position night with the 2 teams tied for 1stConfrey / Zogbaum vs Deyette / Stadnicki and the 2 teams tied for 3rd: Myers / Patrizzi vs Kearns / Russell.

I hope everyone has a great 4th of July!

SandBagger of the Week:

Another good night for Len Stadnicki.  Lenny shot a net 31.  Great round Len!

Byrdie Club:

1 newbie and 1 returnee: Dave Deyette shot his 1st bird on the par 4 9th hole.  Lenny "SandBagger of the Week" Stadnicki stroked a "rainbow" putt on the par 3 7th hole. Great shots Gentlemen!

Week 10

We had some good (?) rolls last night.   Some of my dubs rolled 80 yards!!

I heard Ed Williams had a good round last night.  He had honors on every hole.

SandBagger of the Week:
Rob Pierce, who tied the league low net, with a 28.  Great round Rob!

Byrdie Club:
1 returnee and 2 newbies – Ted Cowles added to his birdie count by bagging his bird on the par 4 18th hole.  Bill Oravec also birdied the 18th hole for his first bird of the year.  Another newbie is the SandBagger of the Week Rob Pierce, who got his bird on the par 3 10th hole.  Great shooting gentlemen!

Three Phoenix League Golfers - Bill, Dave and Kevin

Could this be True?

Three golfers from the Phoenix league had finished their round of golf and were sitting around the 19th hole enjoying a pitcher or two of beer.  Their conversation was, of course, centered about each others "potential" ability to score birdies and perhaps even an eagle.  Realizing that only bogies best fit their style of play these golfers began reminiscing about the cause of their erratic play.

Bill, the first golfer says,... "Fellas, I have real problems.  Every morning, at 7 o'clock, I get up and try to urinate.  All day long I try to urinate.  They give me all kinds of medicine.........but nothing helps.

Dave, the second golfer says ...."you think you have problems. Every morning at 8:00 I get up and try to move my bowels. I try all day long.  They give me all kinds of stuff..... but nothing works.

Finally, Kevin, the third golfer speaks up........"Fellas, every morning at 7:00 sharp I urinate.  Every morning at 8:00 I move my bowels.  Every morning at 9:00......  I wake up !!!

Thanks Lenny for taking care of the cards and money!

SandBagger of the Week:

Byrdie Club:
