End of Season Outing and Banquet

Fantastic day for golf!! It was a great time!

First off – Thanks to St Anne. They provided great services: golf and food!!!

Things you won’t see in Kevin’s pictures: Mark and I running after my golf cart, which decided (all by itself) to go down the hill at the back of the 10th hole!

Did everyone see the turtle in front of the 8th hole?

What you will see is: a picture of Meyer, chipping in for a birdie on the 18th hole!

Week 16 (Final)

Final golf night of league play! It was a great season!

We had some golfers fall by the wayside, one due to injury (an old war wound) – Johnny Hemphill, and one due to call of duty – Hermann Keilich.

We met some new golfers: Dave White, Dan Crawford, Tom Confrey, and Nick Billeter.

Every week, it was good company and plenty of beer!

I just want to say I had a great time this year and I already picked up some score cards for next year. I hope I put them where I can find them (when next year comes)!

Now we can start to practice for the End-of-the-Year tournament. So if anyone wants to, we will show up next Tuesday for golf. Like always, we won’t have a starting tee time but usually there’s no one around at 4 anyways. I will send out a reminder email on Friday and one again on Monday. So we can see who will be playing.

Now for the End-of-the-Year tournament, we will be opening it up to the subs. If you want to play, let me and Meyer know. The cost will be $63.00 this will be for golf/cart/dinner and tournament prizes. (If Gene lets us win something this year!)

If you can make it (regulars), let us know. Right now, Rob is the only one that can’t make it.

End-of-the-Year Tournament:

Where: St Anne CC
Date: Saturday September 24, 2011
Time: 10:15

SandBagger of the Week:

Last SandBagger of the year is Tom Confrey, Paul Morano, and Gene Patrizzi. I had to look at the stats to see if there were anymore, since the program only shows 3 places. Tom and Gene were in the same 4-some and I know their playing opponents were not using the word: SandBagger to describe them! Paul was heard saying: ‘I’m peaking! The season can’t be over!!’. All 3 shot a fine net 31. Great shooting Gentlemen!

Byrdie Club:

Who didn’t birdie the 11th hole??

Those who did: Bill Gallagher, Tom Confrey, Dan Crawford, and Kevin Kearns! Nice shots or putts, Gentlemen!!!

Eagle Club:

Disbanded

Thanks to everyone for making this year very enjoyable!

Week 15

Morning rainy, afternoon bright and Sunny – New England!!!

Thanks again to Airways for the carts (and next week too)!

This was the last round of regular league play. Next week was supposed to be the Championship Round, but now it is just another position night.

Kevin "Now I can pad my handicap" Kearns took the top honors for this year. Even though he lost last night, but so did his closest competitor, Ted Cowles. Congratulations Kevin!

Kevin is shocked at the news that he won the individual championship!

Position Night:

Back 9 (last chance to hit the barn!)

4:18 Frankel / White vs Cowles / Morano
4:26 Myers / Patrizzi vs Gallagher / Keilich
4:34 Hemphill / Oravec vs Galiszuski / Williams
4:42 Deyette / Stadnicki vs Kearns / Russell

SandBagger of the Week:

Bill Oravec: who shot a fine 31 net. Bill’s saving his best round for the end of the year. Now if his partner could do something!!! Great round Bill!

Byrdie Club:

One newbie and 1 returnee: (NB) Bill Oravec got his first bird on the tricky par 3 - 7th hole. While Bill Gallagher added to his birdie total by birding the par 4 - 9th hole (while playing from the 10th fairway). Nice shots, Bills!!

Eagle Club:

Zippo!

Week 14

What’s the difference between a rainy day in April and a rainy day in August? - About 40 degrees!!!

Thanks to Bob Kemp and Airways for the use of the golf carts.

Championship Team of the Year:

Congratulation to Kevin Kearns and Manny Russell: this year’s Phoenix League Team Champions!

Kearns / Russell dismantled the 2nd place team of Deyette / Stadnicki, making it mathematically impossible to be over-taken.

This will mark the 3rd time out of 4 years that Kearns / Russell have won the League Championship.

Player of the Year:

It’s turning out to be a 2-man race between Kevin Kearns and Ted Cowles. Kevin still has a slim 2.5 point lead over Ted and with only 2 more weeks, Ted needs a little help.

SandBagger of the Week:

Nick "I like the rain" Billeter, who shot a fine 29 net. I wonder? Was he using a water ball? Great round Nick!

Byrdie Club:

Maybe because it was raining or maybe it was the aeration/sanding of the greens, but there were no birdies last night.

Eagle Club:

It’s looking like a shutout!

Two more weeks of golf:

1 regular week
1 Championship round (?) or as I’m calling it now – Position night.

End-of-the-Year Tournament:

I will be sending out more info on the End-of-the Year tournament soon:

Where: St Anne CC
Date: Saturday September 24, 2011
Time: 10:15

Bonus Photo of the Week:

Tom and Dan were on vacation in Florida last week.  Tom ended up in a little sand trap:

Tom says he was able to get out of this one, but ended up in another trap (though not quite as severe)

Week 13

What a difference a week makes! It was a beautiful night for golf!

Larry is taking his golf game seriously. He was seen driving around with his golf coach, last night. I mean, how else would you explain, 2 people in a golf cart and only 1 bag between them! Or is it: Gene’s wife wanted to go out on a date and hid his clubs, thinking this will stop him from golfing!!!!

My "Big" brother Bill subbed for Tom Wieland. He held his own, but I think Paul Morano likes play against the "Deyette" boys especially when Paul’s getting strokes (see that stats for the outcome)! Also, I did not hear anything about Rob saying he wanted a new partner, last night. But I did hear Ed Williams saying, "Sure Rob shoots a 43 against me….."

Can the team of Kearns / Russell stand up to the challenge of yet another 2nd place team of Deyette / Stadnicki? The team of Kearns / Russell, with Tom Confrey standing in for Manny, "spanked" last week’s 2nd place team of Galiszuski / Williams.

3 more weeks to go: 2 regular rounds and the Championship round

Championship Team of the Year:

1st place team of Kearns / Russell have a nice 10 point cushion on 2nd place team of Deyette / Stadnicki and a 14.5 point lead over 3rd place team of Galiszuski / Williams. Can the team of Kearns / Russell win it again? Making it 3 out of the last 4 years??

Player of the Year:

Kevin Kearns has a slim 2.5 lead over Ted Cowles and Lenny Stadnicki and a 4 point lead over Meyer Frankel and Mike Galiszuski.

SandBagger of the Week:

It’s a tie between Tom Confrey and Ted Cowles (Rob’s opponent). Both Tom and Ted shot a fine net 31. Great shooting gentlemen!

Byrdie Club:

Two newbies and 1 returnee: Dave Deyette (me) got his first birdie on the very difficult (?) 5th hole (even a blind squirrel finds a nut)!!! J Also, for his first bird, Kevin Kearns birdied the 9th hole and his opponent, Ed "What and now I have to buy Kevin a beer, too" Williams, also birdie the 9th hole! Great shots, gentlemen!

Eagle Club:

Looks like it’s going to be a shut-out for this year!

End-of-the-Year Tournament:

Where: St Anne CC
Date: Saturday September 24, 2011
Time: 10:15

1) Deyette / Stadnicki (38.5 points)
8) Galiszuski / Williams (34.0 points)
5) Cowles / Morano (32.5 points)
2) Gallagher / Keilich (32.5 points)
4) Frankel / White (31.5 points)
7) Myers / Patrizzi (31.0 points)

10) Abbott / Costello (16.0 points)

Washout!

Bad Weather – 16 / Phoenix Golf League – 2 (Larry and Gene)

1st : I will be moving the round to next week (same teams will be playing each other) and we will go off the front nine.

2nd : Larry and Gene – Airways said that they owe you a cart. Next week just tell Bruce that you were the Phoenix Group that went off and he’ll give you a cart, free of charge.

3rd : This will push back our last date to 8/25

On the plus side:

If they were not blocking off the road to Airways, there would have been more golfers on the course

Larry and Gene got some extra practice in. How far did you guys make it??

Hopefully they will be done with the road work by next week. I’ll get in contact with Airways on Monday to see if we need to find another way to the course.

Week 12

Once again I would like to thank Bob Kemp for the use of the free golf carts. Thanks, Bob!

Four more weeks left to go – 3 regular league rounds and 1 championship round.

So the matches to watch, next week, will be the 1st place team of Kearns / Russell against the 2nd place team of Galiszuski / Williams – and – 3rd place team of Deyette / Stadnicki vs the 4th place team of Frankel / White.

It’s moving week – except for Kearns / Russell most teams are in striking distance of each other.

SandBagger of the Week:

Gene Patrizzi - who shot a fine net round of 30. It was said that Gene played like Darren Clarke! Great round Gene!

Byrdie Club:

The official mascot of the Byrdie Club.

Two newbies and one returnee: Len Stadnicki got his 1st bird on the par 5, 4th hole and not to be out done by dad, Mark Stadnicki got his 1st bird on the par 3, 7th hole, just missing an ace. Mike Galiszuski added to his birdie count by getting his bird on the par 4, 1st hole. Nice shooting Gentlemen.

Mike G.'s second shot on the first, leading to his bird.

Eagle Club:

Not looking good for this year!
