2025 Season - Modified Stableford Scoring

Dave has proposed that we use a Modified Stableford scoring system for this season.  Here is how a Modified Stableford scoring system works.

The results of every hole you play can earn a certain number of points, as follows:

Eagle - 8 points

Birdie - 4 points

Par - 2 points

Bogie - 1 point

Double bogie or worse - 0 points

For instance, if you play a round where you get a birdie, three pars, three bogies, and two double bogies, you would earn 13 points (4 for the birdie, 6 for the three pars, and 3 for the three bogies).

Since this seems to favor the better golfers in our league, we will set a weekly target for each player based on their average Stableford points for their five most recent rounds in the league, rounded up or down to the closest whole number.  To score league points in a given week, a player would have to first hit their target, and then however many points they earn over their target would be their score for the week.  If you don’t hit your target for the week, you get no points.

For instance:

Bryson’s five most recent rounds: 13, 7, 9, 12, 11 - average out (rounded) to a target of 10 points

Scottie’s five most recent rounds: 3, 7, 1, 8, 4 - average out (rounded) to a target of 5 points

Using these two players as an example, let’s say in a given week they both had three pars and two bogies, and blew up on the other four holes.  They would each score 8 Stableford points for the week.

Because Bryson’s target was 10 points, he falls short of his target and wins no league points for the week.

Because Scottie’s target was 5 points, he exceeded his target by 3 points and wins 3 league points for the week.

Just like with handicaps, each player’s target for their next round would be recalculated based on their five most recent rounds.
